.prt files are usually ProE files. These can easily be opened
with Autoview. You can also download a ProE viewer from Solidworks.com
called Edrawing viewer - FREE.

What viewers can you recommend? I thought something shipped with
Vantage.
I have to open a .prt file which is supposed to be some kind of drawing
file sent to me by a customer. It's all they can provide.

The add-on Document Management module for Vantage ships AutoVue. Outside of Vantage I have had pretty good results with HiJaak from IMSI ( www.imsisoft.com). Aside from opening many file formats (which the web site lists) it has an easy to use hot-key screen clip utility. Most of the CAD vendors also have viewers (some free) for their formats.

PS - for those with AutoVue who had in version 17.1 the Solid Model capability and need it...don't install version 19 because you will lose the Solid Model portion.

If you can find out which cad system it comes from, you should be
able to download a viewer.
