I need to give users the ability to view a bill of materials and all
sub-bill/parts beneath it but I don't want these users to have access
to the engineering workbench. The BOM listing report is useless as it
does not give all information. In addition they should be able to look
up a part directly from the bill. Does anyone know the best way to
accomplish this?
If you are a SQL customer, do what I do all the time: Create a SQL
View, use ASP to hit it and display it in Internet Explorer.

I have buttons all over my UI that open Internet Explorer and a URL on
my "Vantage Intranet".

That's about your only option as a Dashboard won't do what you need.
Perhaps an Executive Dashboard, but I haven't fooled with them.

Part Tracker will give you all of this.

Find the top-level assembly you¹re interested in in Part Tracker. Right
click on the revision in the Revision tab list view, and Open With -> Method
Tracker. You can see the entire bill under materials, and can look at the
component parts, or right-click on the Part from the Part Detail sheet and
open that Part with Part Tracker or Part Display.

Sounds like Method Tracker, which is available on Part Tracker | Revisions:
right mouse click on the revision letter and choose Open With... | Method
Tracker.

Perfect!! Exactly what I was looking for...just too new to know
where to look. Thanks all.
Are you saying that you don't want users to be able to view the
workbench at all? If not then they should be able to s get to the method
tracker which is just the Engineering Workbench in read only format.

Is there any way to personalize/customize Tree Options for Method
Tracker? It'd be great if we could turn on descriptions and qties etc
in the left hand tree pane, as we do for Job Tracker, Quote Tracker,
Engineering Workbench etc. We've been told by our consultants (Cogita)
that it is not possible, but we've done a few things that were
called "impossible", so haven't given up hope yet... What makes Method
Tracker so different from other trackers?
I have some similar reports/dashboards to build but the vantage qery tool will not handle it - can you tell me how you built your ASP? I am ok with the sql view bit.

Thanks

Karen,

This is the best $399 I've ever spent

http://www.xlinesoft.com/asprunnerpro/

I create a SQL View containing the data I want to display.

Then I use ASP Runner Pro and toss together a complete web interface for it in a matter of minutes using the SQL view's data (versus hitting the Vantage tables directly which I try to avoid).

You can have a basic display or get more advanced with security, logins, etc.

Put the ASP in your IIS folder (C:\inetpub\...) on your server (mine happens to be on my Vantage server).

Download a free trial from them. Their Support is great and they provide prompt email replies.

I don't use the Vantage dashboard feature at all and I've save $$$$$$$$ buy allowing certain users and execs to gain access to Vantage data (and even update data) without having to buy user seats and install the Vantage client on their PC.

For example our HAZMAT dept needed to update and maintain 8 UD fields on the Part table for their HAZMAT data. Instead of buying and installing the Vantage client on their PCs for such a limited need I wrote an ASP interface to hit the Vantage Part master table and update the UD fields required.

For our Sales force I've written some slick dashboards in ASP with conditional formatting for quote and sales pipelines.

Let me know if you have any other questions. It's a real slick product and very intuitive.
