Virtual servers

Calvin,
I have attempted to install Vantage 6.1 on a 2008R2 server without success. Did you have to do something different to get it to work?
I was able to get Vantage 6.1 clients working with Windows 7 several years ago, so I figured 2008 would work as well.
I also have the EOL concerns about 2003 next year as well.
Thanks,
Jim Moore

Jerry –

You can run 6.1 on Server 2008R2 without any issues as well as on Windows 7 pcs. Hope this helps.

Thank you in advance,

Hello Michael,
It looks like you probably got your answer but we're running Vantage 6.1 on VMware virtual server with no problems and better performance. We're looking at where to go from here though since Windows Sever 2003 is at EOL next year.

I actually have another question for you Michael. If I recall correctly, at one time you offered a "Time Out" utility for Vantage. Is this still available?

Best regards,
Jerry Dahlinger

Does or has anyone run Vantage on a virtual server? Does it work or
even supported? Pros/Cons? Which version of Vantage?

We run 905.607A on virtual servers BUT you need SSD’s to keep the speed reasonable.

We have vantage 8.03.409C on a virtual server. it works fine as it used to on a physical server. to be honest i saw a slight difference in speed but that because we added more ram. so i dont have any rela pros and cons for you

There are at least 50 threads regarding visualization for Epicor and Vantage in this forum. Take a look at the history on Yahoo Groups site :-)

Currently running Epicor 9.05.702A with Progress DB as a VM (VMware ESXi 5.0). All (meaning db server as well as app servers) running on same VM. Equalogic SAN (non-SSD). Performance is fine albeit we have a small number of users now. As we scale (currently adding another site) we may have to tweak this environment.

Harvey Vogel Mfg. is running Vantage 6.1 on VMware servers hosted with ESX using VsphereClient.  Runs super well because even Windows Server 2003 non-64 bit can be allocated 8GB (or more) of virtual RAM.   When I left they were having no problems at all,  Even used VMotion to move running instance of Vantage server from one host to another to uupgrade the hosts.  Not a blip or disconnect for anyone.

As of last week I am no longer there though and actively looking for another Epicor gig.  Perferably in MN or Western WI if anyone is looking for a new IT Manager/Director.  Company name(s) can be sent to caughey-t@... .  I just got my YahooGroup account updated to my personal address.
