Visual C# Not in Visual Studio 2010

I installed VS-Express on my PC after consulting with the 3rd party support that installed SQL Server.  As time (and supply of no-doz) permits I will continue the video tutorials.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

So C# is the language in which you write BPMs and Customizations but there is little to nothing you can do in Visual Studio itself the customizations are within epicor as always and so are the BPMs. If you just want to learn the language then I suggest you get Visual Studio Express (FREE as in Beer) for desktop and go that route.

Otherwise you won't need Visual Studio

Not sure. Since it looks like you have a license, maybe you can download the c# template. Hopefully, someone more familiar will chime in.

When I open Visual Studio and go to Help-About Visual Studio to check licensing I see it says Visual C# is installed. I've used VS in a past setting for modifying SSRS reports for MS Dynamics CRM but can't find where C# is hiding. Whether or not I use VS Express on my PC for the training I figure down the road I'll want it on the SQL Server system anyway.

Yes, VS is installed for SQL because it's the tool used to develop SSRS reports. I don't know if express has limitations but, that's what I would try if you don't have a Visual Studio license.

I'm trying to work through some C# tutorials (during a temporary lull in the implementation) and when I open Visual Studio on our SQL Server system it is not giving me the option for C# when I create a new project. The tutorial shows it under "installed templates" but all I have there is "Business Intelligence" with a few things under that. The installation of SQL and E10 were done by Epicor so I am not sure what should or should not be there. Am I maybe barking up the wrong tree and should be looking elsewhere (like putting Visual Studio Express on my PC)? A nudge in the right direction would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
-Todd C.

That seems to fit the pattern.  There is a BI template folder with Analysis, Integration and Reporting services but nothing else.  My understanding was that in order to do some of the customizations in BPMs I would have to deal with C#.   Not true?  If I can skip a bunch of mind numbingly boring video tutorials that would be fine with me.  But I’m in a short gap in the implementation (waiting for Epicor’s EPR results) so filling it with some training.  If I don’t really need C# (since they don’t install it) I’ll spend the time elsewhere.

Thanks,
-Todd C.

If Epicor Installed it fro you then you do not have the full Visual Studio that's not something that Epicor sells .... Visual Studio installs with BI for SQL and won't have the C# stuff on there even though it says "Professional" it still only the SQL BI stuff

Spent most of yesterday trying to track down C#.  On the server there is a VC# folder under Visual Studio in Program Files (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC#).  I found online instructions for missing templates in VS that says to run devenv.exe /installvstemplates (as administrator)  but this did nothing.  Still no access to C#.  I am trying to track down if it was our 3rd party server support or Epicor who installed SQL Server (and VS) to find out why.  For anyone else with a new E10 install did Epicor set up SQL Server or did you?

Thanks,
-Todd

Yes, VS is installed for SQL because it's the tool used to develop SSRS reports. I don't know if express has limitations but, that's what I would try if you don't have a Visual Studio license.

Subject: [Vantage] Visual C# Not in Visual Studio 2010

I'm trying to work through some C# tutorials (during a temporary lull in the implementation) and when I open Visual Studio on our SQL Server system it is not giving me the option for C# when I create a new project. The tutorial shows it under "installed templates" but all I have there is "Business Intelligence" with a few things under that. The installation of SQL and E10 were done by Epicor so I am not sure what should or should not be there. Am I maybe barking up the wrong tree and should be looking elsewhere (like putting Visual Studio Express on my PC)? A nudge in the right direction would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
