VMWare and a Vantage Image

There is a VMWare product called Vmware converter that takes a
physical machine image, and creates a virtual image from it. It used
to be very expensive, but from what I am reading there is a free
version. http://vmware.com/products/converter/

dump the image to the drive if you want to start over. There is a
separate feature program that can be purchased in conjunction with
Acronis from them which enables the image to be restored to a machine
that is not similar to the machine from which it was created. That
was useful recently when I upgraded my home hardware from EIDE drive
to SATA.

I have setup VMWare on my Vantage server so I can load Vantage
8.803.400x and OpenEdge 10.1B in a seperate enviroment for testing
before going live with it.

I am currently on 8.803.305K and would like to create a complete image
of that enviroment, O/S and files, Vantage and OpenEdge, so that I can
load it into this virtual enviroment and not have to hassle loading the
O/S, OpenEdge, Vantage, etc... just to get to the point where I can
test the upgrade procedures and all my subsequent testing in 8.803.400.
Plus I then would be able to reload this image if I needed to start
from the beginning again.

I am new to VMWare so does anyone know how I can create this image and
then use it as the application for this test enviroment.

Thanks

Scott
VMware has VMware Converter that will create the image of the live
server - it is free. I would make sure db's are shut down before
taking image...

Scott,
I have used a product called Acronis to create a bare-metal image of my O/S, etc. The image can be put on another drive, DVD. Then just dump the image to the drive if you want to start over. There is a separate feature program that can be purchased in conjunction with Acronis from them which enables the image to be restored to a machine that is not similar to the machine from which it was created. That was useful recently when I upgraded my home hardware from EIDE drive to SATA.
