This is an issue with our compaq raid array as well. Luckily our Server guy
had experienced the problem first with another client. Here's a good rule of
thumb for any NT server with a RAID array:
LEAVE A SHORTCUT TO YOUR RAID ARRAY'S INSTALLATION PROGRAM ON YOUR DESKTOP.
WHENEVER YOU INSTALL AN NT SERVICE PACK OR UPDATE, DO NOT RESTART THE
COMPUTER WHEN PROMPTED. INSTEAD RUN THE RAID ARRAY'S SETUP PROGRAM, THEN
RESTART.
Otherwise the service pack or security update may have overwritten your raid
drivers, thus corrupting your data on the next bootup.
I'm sure this isn't an issue with every raid controller, but it is with at
least two....

Subject: [Vantage] Warning - Watch out for NT 4.0 security update!!
Or may be I did something wrong.
Last week I downloaded "Security Update, March 7,
2002" "Q313829i.exe" file from Microsoft NT downloads site. This
update resolves the "Unchecked Buffer in Windows Shell Could Lead to
Code Execution" security vulnerability in Windows NT® 4.0.
After installing it on our old HP Netserver the system prompted me to
restart the server. That's when the nightmare started. The
initialazation of the NetRaid disk array controller failed. When I
looked at the NetRaid configuration it was showing that four out six
hard drives failed.
I had to reconfigur the RAID, reformat the logical drive and
reinstall NT 4.0 fresh on the server. We are so lucky that we had
purchased a new server last October and Vantage is running on it.
