Way off topic! HP TopTools

I am assuming then that you have the "packed" version of the service pack,
which is a single program called sp6i386, or something like that. To unpack
it, run the service pack program from a command line with the /x switch,
like this:

SP6i386 /x

The program will then unpack and prompt you for where the files should go. I
usually just put it in c:\i386\nt4sp6a, but feel free to to specify whatever
you want.

We just installed an HP 4000M switch to replace our hubs. HP TopTools is
the diagnostic software we need to help us with some network problems
we're having. When installing the software it states that it has
detected 128 bit security, the SP supplied with this Wizard is 40 bit
and cannot be installed over 128 bit, I will need to provide a path to
the 128 bit SP6a and this image must already be unpacked if it was
downloaded from the Microsoft website. (All our Pc's and server have
SP6a.)

So I begin the install and get to the point where it needs to reinstall
SP6a. I supply the path to the location on our network and then get the
error message: "The path specified does not contain a valid Service Pack
Image."

We've used this SP countless times here. It is not a zip file. I think
the key is the statement that 'the image must be unpacked.' I do not
know what that means. I've been on the MS website but cannot find
anything.

Does anyone know what an 'unpacked' service pack is and how do I get
one? Or do I do something to the SP on our network to get it unpacked?
Or am I missing the obvious (highly probable)?

Any and all help is appreciated!!

Marty,

Use WinZip to extract the files from the compressed service pack. Or on
your NT-Server you can right click and select open. The service pack will
be extracted to a temporary file ( Pay attention as to where ) and then the
"Do you accept license agreement" screen will pop up. Minimize the "do you
accept" screen and use explorer to copy the temp directory while it is still
in existence. Note that if you cancel the install the the temp directory
will be automatically deleted so you have to copy it while it is still
there.

Good luck

Todd Anderson
