Weird scenario issue

Jasper, can you set up the customer part in your system and set that #
as a substitute part for yours in the master?

Subject: [Vantage] Weird scenario issue

Does anybody know if Vantage has a way to handle this scenario or if
there is an easy workaround to this.

We have a part that we purchase. It is a material for an assembly. We
also sell this part directly to our customers as a spare part without us
doing any sort of machining on the part. The issue we have is that we
do not want our customer to know what our part number is for this part.
When they order the part from us as a spare, they as for a different
part number which we call the customer part number. Both part numbers
our in our system.

My question is, is there a way that we can take our part number and
change it to the customer part number without creating a job? We would
need the cost of the part to transfer over also?

OR

Is there a way we can create a shipper for our part number so we can
properly decrease our inventory levels BUT have the customer number
print out on the shipper? The invoice would also have to reflect the
customer part number and not our part number.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jasper

Unfortunately, I think this only works if you need to order a part but your vendor is out of them. You can set up a list of substitute parts that can be used. If I set up the customers part number as a subsitite part, how can I transfer the inventory quantity over to the customer part number?

Thanks,
Jasper

Could you not have both part numbers in inventory? Then when you get an
order, do a qty adjustment from one part number to the other. Then ship from the
part number you want?

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Would a quantity adjust also transfer the purchased cost of the part?

Jasper,
How about Kanban jobs (6.1).
We use this process to take two separate items in our inventory and combine
them into one part for shipment. The customer orders the one (set) part,
but we build them as individuals.
You will need a BOM for the saleable part with an operation and the
purchased part as a material. The Kanban creates a job, back flushes, and
then completes and closes the job.
Good luck,

I haven't tried this but you can set up a customer part number for
the part. When printing orders and invoices the customer part number
over rides the real part number.
You could also buy and stock them with both part numbers. If you run
short of the intenal part numbered parts you can subsitute the
customer numberd parts into the jobs. If costs are stable they should
cost the same or very close.
You can do Quantitiy Adjust but you have to manually adjust the
costs.

PS we played with running purchased parts through a job to get a
finished part number and found that the jobs weren't being closed
right. It works if one person walks the process through from job
creation to closing.
