Welder specifications

Thanks for all for your great suggestions. I gave them to my boss
and she's looking into some of them. They might work for us!

Thanks again
Shari
Hello Group,

Here is my problem. We have welders. These welders have to be
certified. They must do so many hours on certian welding specs to
keep that certification. We're trying to find a way to keep track
of those hours within Vantage. Right now we have certian operations
on the job that are for welding but within that operation there
could be many welding specs. We don't want to create each different
welding spec within that operation as that would cause too much of a
headache. Does anyone have any good ideas or same situations?

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks
One thought...but might be as bad or worse than coding the operations...have the welders clock-off and then back on to the job at the end of each spec and in the out process create a labor note for the welding spec they just completed. Some simple code like WS-321 or something. This would entail some running back and forth to the DC location but the accuracy of the time spent on that spec would be much greater than allocating some % of their time to the whole operation. Then you could report and total by welder from the labor detail records. If it is important enough to track this then the clock-out/in time might be worth it.

Why not use a program specifically suited to track welding documentation?
Vantage doesn't seem to be a good solution to track such things.
We use Welding Pro-Write to track all of our WPQ's, PQR's and WPQ's
We use the enhanced version of this program as it supports over 100 weld
procedures.

How about this idea. A check box, a drop down list and an numeric field in
the PART master VB forms . For those jobs that have a special welding spec,
check the box and select the spec and enter the estimated required time.
Then assume that the welders are going to spend the required amount of time
for that part for that spec. Then you just have to generate a report
linking jobs, employees and parts for an estimated time spent.
