What have people experienced with implementations at small shop

FWIW - In my opinion;

We are the same number of office users in a multi disciplined aerospace
orientated metalworking company and like you transferred from a paper based
system.

I would score implementation averages as follows on the basis of 1 being no
problem to 10 being a major hurdle, but not necessarily an inherent failure.
This reflects year one implementation with a normal days work scoring 5 / 10

Vantage v4 / Progress 5 / 10
Custom Reporting 6 / 10
Bill Gates 5 / 10
Me 6 / 10
Users 9 / 10
Accommodating Perceived Company Requirements 9 / 10
Keeping my usual positive, sunny attitude 10e5 / 10

In summary, to quote Lewis Carroll,

"Cheshire puss" she (Alice) began rather timidly . . . .
"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the cat.
"I don't care where," - said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the cat.

I have this quote posted in front of me together with a copy of Desiderata,
rarely do others comprehend the irony.

What have people experienced with Vantage implementations at small
shops? How much time has it taken to Implement Vantage to a point
that the system adds value to a company (2 weeks 4 weeks, etc.)
Granted this is a very small shop (less than 10 office users) and
only the basic modules are going to be used. Additionally, the
company is without any formal system currently.

Just curious what small shops have experienced with similar sized
implementations.

Many Thanks

" the company is without any formal system currently"

The above will be both a curse and a blessing. My suggestion is that when
you do implement, you write formal procedures and work instructions as you
go. While that may seem to be excess work, you will benefit to no end after
you've implemented. Vantage CAN be implimented in a year or less, BUT
everybody MUST be on board. Each person not buying into your implimentation
will add at least 6 months to you your implimentation. We started in 1997
and still aren't fully implimented because of a manufacturing department
that believes more in PENCILS than electrons.

Wow, Shirley! And I thought our company was the only slacker in the bunch.
Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone.
