What the!...instructions for 5.2?

The only change worth having is the one that you want

This sounds scary to me. Our engineering group is very adverse to change,
unless it is to improve their multimedia programs (RealPlayer, MusicMatch,
etc.). I hope the process was streamlined in 6.0.

Thanks for the laugh Ed. I really needed that this am.!!

I have started on the upgrade path for 5.2 and have the training Dbase on my
screen. There is some major changes in Job entry with the use of the
engineering workbench.

Is there some standard instructions on "how to enter a Job" using the
workbench I can give the schedulers and other info on the changes in other
parts like quote entry and so on?.

The whole flow in some of the program has changed. I'm a little unsure on
how to instruct my users. In the engineering workbench It appears you have
to create a group before you can add a BOM and routing then post the group,
I also see another screen I imagine should be used in conjunction with Job
entry that release the jobs to the work shop.

Mark,
Ask Epicor for a copy of the training/tutorial disk for 5.2. It's a lot more comprehensive than the one for 5.1.

The engineering workbench is a pain in the butt especially if you use configurators a lot. It takes some getting used to. Each person who has access to the workbench has his own group (or his workbench). Once created, parts can be checked in and out at will. There is no need to post/close the group at all (unlike the financial related entry groups). I've set up and used the same workbench/group since we changed to 5.20 in October.

The multiple panels in the workbench and in Job Entry are just bells and whistles of the same functionality in 5.1. Because of some issues we had with our SQL flavoured Vantage, I've fallen back on using the menu bar and/or keyboard shortcuts instead of the fancy panels. The only fancy panel features I find useful are the tick boxes for firm-engineer-release and the print button.

Contact your account manager and have them check around for a tutorial that was written by Dan McCarter, one of the Epicor consultants. It is pretty good and has screen shots pointing things out step by step. I had an early "under-development" copy but it ought to be pretty much finished by now. I would send what I have but he had asked me not to distribute it.

We too have had serious startup issues with EWB and it really does not fit our mode of operation. I understand it was put in place to handle the requirements of manufacturters for whom the change tracking requirements are pretty strict; medical, automotive, etc... But it really puts an extra (and unproductive) burden on small/medium job shops like us. Too bad its use is not elective. But over time it has become more routine and we live with it. BTW - there are serious bugs in EWB for any 5.20 patch before 313.
