Where Used (was Indented Bills of Materials)

Not sure if this will help or not and I can't think of any of out parts off hand that have repeating lower level parts, but have you looked at the BOM Listing under Engineering reports? You can select a production quantity when you select a part and it will multiply out the quantities of all levels if you choose Indented Level. As I said I don't know if it would group everything under part number or if you'd be stuck adding manually to get part totals which I assume is what you're trying to get away from. Just thought I'd mention it in case it would be an option.

Where used can be found (or added) to the Context Menu when you right
click on a part. There are several available depending on the modules
that you own. It does exist, you just need to add it. We're still on
9.04 so maybe you don't have to if you further along.

Hi,

For the indented where used, you only have to apply the Bom single level
code you saw before. Then, you can make research on that new table for any
part mtl, it will give you all the parents on a single level!

Thanks, I'll take look.

We've tried the Where Used that comes with V8 but it isn't very useful for us.
We need listings of the quantities for a top level system, where the part(s) will appear on multiple subassemblies and/or levels.

Just know that there is more than one Where Used programs in Epicor
(in 9.04, there are at least three) and each have different formats.
The one we use has five tabs: Part Where Used, Up One Level, Down One
Level, Job Material, and Job Assembly. Quite useful.

Thanks Mark,

We have one specific need. Maybe I've missed one that would do this?
- Return the total required quantity of a part - per a top level system(s).

The reports I've tried don't seem to get me there because of the scale of the "system" BOMs.
There are multiple major sub assemblies that go 9 levels deep.
A component part can be scattered all thru the system BOM structure.

Purchasing wants/needs these quantities when new systems are being introduced and they are getting vendor quotes. (Often this means no jobs yet).
When it comes up now, users start with the existing where used but then manually sort and add to get the final numbers they want.

So I'm thinking something like the T-SQL CODE that Vassilis shared will be needed.
I remember the legacy system had a custom indented where used report, and a process to regenerate the flat table used as the report source.
Of course this is a Progress database....
