Which user did what?

I've wondered how that could be done ever since we started on Vantage. On our old main frame I set up the UNIX menu script to record BOJ and EOJ times when a user accessed a program thru the menu. We used that log often. It told us what users were accessing what programs and was used as proof that a user did (or didn't) run a program. It didn't tell us what the employee did in the program and was never intended to. I've filed away Brad's solution, maybe someday I'll have time to play with the idea. My thanks also, Brad!

ÂÂ
Sreejith,

We had DotNetIT create a custom business object that logs each instance of a new menu item into a table. Items logged include userid, date/time and menuid. We wrote an SSRS report with flexible parameters to query the information logged.

It's actually quite valuable to know what parts of the system are being used and those that are not, and by whom. We have found many unanticipated uses for the information.

Note that it does not log the length of time spent in the activity, nor does it log any details about what was done after the form, tracker or report was started. If this is the level of information you need and would like to know more, send me an email.

Thanks,
Brad

It sounds like you are fairly new to Epicor. Epicor its a huge ERP system
with thousands of tables and tens of modules, creating a report that would
detail exactly what each user did and how would be ungodly and useless.
Your best bet if you are new in the company is do what I always do when I
start a new job. Ask for time to sit with each Key area in the company
and shadow them for a day

I agree with Jose here. Even if you got a report of what people did,
you wouldn't know why they did without asking them in person.
Shadowing also reveals unusual events that hardly ever make it into a
test plan.

Good Day:

Many programs, including Trackers, have a book Icon that is
"Change Log".

Is just for the focused item, so you cannot do reports, but does

It is possible to prepare a report from the change log tables if you really as so inclined. I have a report that watches a few key fields in the sales process and sends an email once a week with certain kinds of transactions that the manager wants to be able to review. Using an SSRS report allows me to place some rather complex filtering that the email on change log activity would not allow.

As to the main topic, yeah - a report is not going to help much in my opinion.

Thanks,
Brad
