Windows Server 08 Upgrade

As I understand it, the service packs are inclusive so you can go from 602 to 606 directly.

I will need to upgrade our server 2003 install to server 2008. I have an enterprise license for 2003 that came with the server, but will not need that at all. I purchased the cheaper 2008 std license but it appears I am unable to do a regular upgrade this way. Why is beyond me, but anyone out there experience the same thing, and have a good procedure for a full format install of Epicor while maintaining custom app servers etc.
Clean installation of everything, with careful documentation of all your
custom settings etc.

I don't trust upgrading for any operating system at all.

I'd say that if you devote a whole day to it, you should be more than safe.
The last time we built out a new VM it took about 4-6 hours start to finish.

Soup to nuts, for the OS, updates, Epicor, and Insite. Assuming you have no
other 3rd party applications installed, this can be accomplished in 20 hours
on the long side, and 12-14 on the short side.

Assuming you did your Epicor, OpenEdge and Insite installations on a
secondary drive and not to the default "C:\Program Files" location, Insite
and even Epicor shouldn't be that much trouble, if you keep all file paths
exactly the same, you can actually just do an basic default installation and
then do a file copy of the old directory over the new directory and that
should take care of any special settings they did to config files. If you
are running the 64-bit version of Epicor 9.05 then you likely have your
Insite Appserver on another machine, that can stay the same.

Same for Epicor, and it is nice to keep any custom reports etc in the same
spots so you don't have to worry about updating the references in menu
maintenance either.

If you did the original install on the C: drive, then I would take the time
and opportunity to make sure it is installed completely on a secondary
drive.

Insite is pretty good about helping with re-installs, even if you have to
pay for it, you are only looking at 30 minutes in most cases if you have the
default, base installation completed prior to the call.

Now when I re-install, I will also do the upgrade from 604 to 606. The base product I have is 602. Do I need to install 604 again before 606 or can I just go from 602 to 606 then go through the schema updates and all that? Or am I better served installing and getting everything running at 604 then updating to 606?
