Windows Vista Blank Title 54656

Sure,

Vantage Drive = V

Run V:\Progress\netsetup\setup.exe

Run V:\Vantage\OCX\InstOcx.exe

Edit C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\services (for example: Epic50
2500/tcp) You can find the service in the vantage.vtg file, connections=
-S "xxxxx", 2500 is the default port for 5.0, tcp is the protocol.

The services file needs Local Admin rights or Explicit user Rights
(Domain Admin will not work - although Domain Admin can change the
rights).

I do not know how this affects Crystal reports, we rarely us it here,
and have not explicitly tested it.

Could you explain how you install manually vs. using the client install.

Thanks

Hello Ben,

I don't believe anyone answered your question. I am running Vantage 5.0
on Vista 32bit and 64bit. This is mostly in a test environment, but we
did put one in the Sales Dept. So far we have not come across any
issues.

The install was a bit tricky though, the client install does not run in
Vista. We had to install everything manually. Again so far so good. My
guess is 6.1 should be similar.

Considering the fact that Windows Vista is now the default OS if I buy
a new computer from Dell, I wanted to know if Vantage 6.10.535 will
run on Windows Vista.

Here was my response from Epicor:

"Currently, no version of Vantage is supported on Windows Vista.
Testing is proceding on V8.03, but there are not plans to certify
V6.10 with Windows Vista."

Epicor does not plan to certify Vantage on Windows Vista... Interesting.

Has anyone tested this yet? I'd hate to buy a new PC, reformat and
install XP.

Thanks in advance,
Ben

Precision are available with a choice of either XP or Vista.

Not supporting 6.1 on Vista is sort of contradictory to the statements I hear all the time from Epicor about not forcing sites to upgrade and our being able to decide when upgrading is best for us. This may be a backdoor sort of way to force the customer base forward after all. We keep pushing the upgrade out...now set for 2009 (due to lack of confidence in the upgrade process and support) so surely new machines will come standard with Vista well before then.

We had just that same reformat and load older OS issue back when we were on 4.0 and it was not "certified" for XP but 5.0 was. All the new PCs we got were bought with XP and I had to scrub & load with Win2K (or 98 even). We are still only 50/50 on XP being on the machines licensed for it.

I'm preparing a Workstation replacement plan (still have W98 and W2000) and
am seriously considering the Dell "Open Source" PC's that come without an
OS, and installing XP Pro that I can buy for about $90 a copy (CD's only
with valid license) from a discount software house.

Here's a link to the "Open Source" desktops'

Laptops and PCs I have purchased in the last few months all have XP
installed with a free upgrade to Vista. I like that route as it gives
me the leeway to move into Vista when I am ready. I hate purchasing new
PCs with yesteryear's OS. I almost fell into that trap when XP came
about.

I just returned from a two week trip to China. MS software there is now
sold in packages that are shrinkwrapped (I know, software is sold
shrinkwrapped here as well but it's special China packaging that I
hadn't seen before) with all CD keys etc. inside the package. It is
very common to purchase software there that has already been opened. In
fact, we had to pay a premium (in time) to wait for software that had
not been opened. Software that has been opened has most likely had it's
keys copied and distributed to the "Discount Branch" of this
Vendor..."Arrrrrrggggg Scruvy Dog Software Company".

I bought and registered/validated all my workstations with
edirectsoftware.com. Paid $115.00 per license-CD. There are others that
sell cheaper, but not really comfortable with them...

I'm preparing a Workstation replacement plan (still have W98
and W2000) and am seriously considering the Dell "Open
Source" PC's that come without an OS, and installing XP Pro
that I can buy for about $90 a copy (CD's only with valid
license) from a discount software house.

Here's a link to the "Open Source" desktops'

Has anybody out there gone this route and bought any of
these PC's?

Subject: [Vantage] Windows Vista

Considering the fact that Windows Vista is now the default
OS if I buy a new computer from Dell, I wanted to know if
Vantage 6.10.535 will run on Windows Vista.

Here was my response from Epicor:

"Currently, no version of Vantage is supported on Windows
Vista.
Testing is proceding on V8.03, but there are not plans to
certify V6.10 with Windows Vista."

Epicor does not plan to certify Vantage on Windows Vista...
Interesting.

Has anyone tested this yet? I'd hate to buy a new PC,
reformat and install XP.

Thanks in advance,
Ben

I'm curious about the elimination of OpenGL (Open Graphics Library)
support in Vista... what the direction will be for all of our high end
Machining and CAD applications which are optimized for opengl?

Anyone seen statements of directions from Dassault (Catia), Unigraphics,
etc regarding Microsoft dropping opengl?

Me Too! XP sucks. I run win2000 on everything. I think it's the apex
of windows' features to performance curve. Everything since has just
added stupid eye candy and inane "features" while slowing the machine to
crawl. And Vista seems to prove just how far that bad trend can go. Ok
-- in fairness -- XP does handle wireless networking better than '2000.
But I don't care about than on the majority of machines.

Could you explain how you install manually vs. using the client install.

Thanks
