Workcenter for subcontracted operation

We use (2) types of Workcenter Codes for outsourcing, 'SUB'
and 'OFLD'. We also suffix each code with an identifier indicating
the buyer who is handling the outsourcing.
'SUB' is for work that we cannot do at our facility.
'OFLD' is for work that we are able to perform, but due to certain
constraints, will be unable to perform at this time.

I'd like to hear from other users what their practice is regarding
specifying a work center for a subcontracted operation. Do you use a
separate work center, such as subcontractor's facility, for the operation?
Alternatively, do you use an internal work center, such as operations
management or project management, for the operation? Either way, please
share your reasoning. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

We use "Outsource" for the workcenter (tells you it's goin' out).

We use a variety of titles such as "Painting", "Plating", etc. for the
operations (tells you where it went).

Each subcontract vendor has been assigned it's own work center. On bills
with multiple subcontract operations from different vendors each has a
distinct work center. This has been handy a couple times for running a
"parts with selected work center" report to seek lower pricing or check the
impact when a subcontract vendor goes out of business. These work centers
are all in the range 900-999 and the descriptions all start with "Z-" to
force them to the end of selection lists sorted by description.
