XL Connect 7 - Pack N Go

Hello All,

First post, so I apologize if I am posting this wrong. I am looking for anyone who has used XL Connect 7 and specifically the PackNGo function. I am in the process of creating a financial package with XL Connect and we are reaching the point where we are discussing distribution options. We think PackNGo will be our best bet (I am under the assumption that users don’t need a license they just need the XL Connect application - please correct me if I am wrong) but we are curious as to what functionality is still available with PackNGo. Will users be able to change parameters and have it still update with the correct info? Any input with previous use would be fantastic.

Thank you in advance.

@josecgomez you ever used Pack N Go? #XLConnect

Hi Nathan,

First of all and to clarify, Pack N’Go is only for XLC Remote users. This option is going to embed cache data into the report so the Remote users can open XLC reports, drill-down and even refresh bases on the cache tables, as they don’t have an actual live connection to the database.

If you are willing to share reports with NON XLC users, you will need to save them as values-only or better yet use XL Broadcast, a powerful tool to broadcast reports in different render formats (PDF, XLS, CSV, TXT, etc) based on a broadcast distribution list.

Thank you very much for your response. I have learned since the original post that the users would still need a remote license even with Pack N’Go. We are 90% sure we are just going to have to get about 10 more licenses so the users can have full functionality of these reports. If only the managing of licenses for XL Connect wasn’t complete crap - but it is, unfortunately.

Glad you are getting what you need, but what you mean about licenses been crap? you mean the process to expedite them?

There is no way of viewing your current licenses and seeing how many are left or what licenses are used for which users. I have been told if you want this information you have to open an Epicor support case each time.
