Carey,
It is kind of confusing and hard to explain but I will try. I combined
Backflushing materials and WIP counting in the same sentence and I shouldn't
have. They are actually two different subjects.
We are able to backflush but to only the primary warehouse set-up in the
plant of the specific part number. Because we do not have AMM we cannot
backflush one part to different warehouses depending on the BOM that it is
in.
An example is we have ABC part which is standard for our Front Shop and Back
Shop. Both shops have their own stocking location that we backflush from.
But without AMM we can only backflush from the Primary warehouse which is
where we buy the material too. It is actually our stockroom and when one of
the shops need the material we transfer it to either Back or Front Shop.
For WIP counting without AMM we cannot stock subassemblies. So when they
are finished we do not see them in inventory. So as of right now we have no
real way to count our finished WIP/Subassemblies. Now we chose in our
implementation to see subs as part of the main job which was probably a
mistake but we had major problems with that in our last system. We thought
that this would be better. Until we have AMM I am leaving things alone till
we see what it helps or hurts.
I hope that clears things up a bit. But from what you wrote I believe I
have my answer. AMM does work and Counting WIP is going to be a pain. But
we will be able to do blank tags and just manually input them. It won't be
a true blind count but it will work.
Thanks for your help
Alan

Alan,
I do in fact have AMM. I am a little confused about your question. Are you
referring to being able to account for items in WIP? I use muliple
warehouses to have a production warehouse and an inspection warehouse, so
when I generate tags, they are generated and sorted for the items that exist
in both. However, the problem I have with WIP is that the tags that are
account for WIP for subassemblies that are marked as NON-stock have to be
manually created.
Backflishing applies to the relief of inventory as tied to an operation...so
is what you are telling me
something along the lines of counting ITEMS in WIP and not having the
components that have been already flushed as a function of reporting
material under an operation show up in their proper quantities?
