Zebra Label Printing from Report Builder

It surprises me that you must worry about the label control codes on a new
label printer.

We use a windows driver for our dymo label printer, and print from RB using
the dymo labelwriter's windows print driver. Its just like printing to a
laserjet, only your paper size is smaller. I believe the windows print
driver takes care of control codes, selecting paper size, fonts, print qty,
etc, though a manufacturer will often include the technical data in their
manuals for non-windows applications.

Subject: [Vantage] Zebra Label Printing from Report Builder

I am just starting to explore writing RB reports to print labels on a new
Zebra Z4M printer. I am looking through the ZPL manual at the label control
codes and this reminds me a lot of printing I have done with Intermec
printers. Before I invest (or waste) a lot of time I was wondering is
anyone else is printing labels from RB. Specifically I am trying to do
carton labels linked to packing slip info. My take on this so far is that I
can put ZPL command strings in a report and insert the Vantage data in the
strings then print them to the label printer. When the printer sees the set
of instructions and data it should then do its thing. Right? Or am I way
off base? Thanks.
