No more print tray in 2024.2? Good…one less thing to go sideways.

To be fair…Edge Agent’s been OK of late…but we had issues early on with our users…so I had to snark it up a bit.

@Olga appreciates a bit of snark.

One day I’m hoping she will start her own :dumpster_fire:

We are seeing an issue with transfer order entry, users are not allowed to paste the record, you will receive a “Record not found” error. However, the record is open, visible within time phase and can be opened when searched. I have seen this in both classic form and kinetic.

Since 2024.1, Edge Agent on Windows does not install (and use) the QZ tray, aka Epicor Print Tray. All printing stuff is done the same way it was in the smart client, so no need to use 3rd party app.

On Mac it is still used though.

Thank a lot. That’s good to know. But on 2024.1 do we still need to have edge agent for attachments?

of course. Print tray is gone, not edge agent. There is no way browser will ever open file from your disk from the code, also there is no way to use link attachment with full path in browser without edge agent- you won’t get full path without it.

Okay thank you, so edge agent still needed to see client printers?

OK, so it’s halfway-fixed in 2024.1…maybe it’ll be gone by 2026.1 or 2027.1?

We had access to it because we were in the controlled release. It was in epic web under the controlled release section. But if you weren’t in the CR I don’t think you have access, and I can’t find it anywhere else on the site. I’m sure they will get it out there eventually.

Yes, it gets the list of client printers, now without print/qz tray. Because again you would not be able to do this from code in the browser.

If you don’t need its functionality, then maybe. But as I said above some things browser will never be able to do for you.

It is weird cause I can print from any web browser and I don’t see something installed locally from each of those browsers to be able to see the printers. I’ve always misunderstood the need for the edge agent to see printers because of what I said above. Would you be able to explain this any?

Understood…just kidding. I can’t speak for anyone else but version upgrades - be it ERP, EDI, OS or anything else - can be a little stressful…sometimes we need to lighten the mood a little to get through things.

You don’t need the edge agent to print preview, which will pull down the PDF then print that. It’s only for directly printing without pulling down a print preview.

Yes, it is browser capability, you run it manually, not from javascript

@Banderson and @Olga I’m still not getting it.

When I click print on my browser is it bringing up something similar to a “print preview” and that’s why the browser doesn’t need a plugin? @Banderson ?

And Olga ya lost me haha
