Why do you need to nested statement? just use (case when (1 <= GLBudgetDtl.FiscalPeriod and GLBudgetDtl.FiscalPeriod <= 4) then 1 when (5 <= GLBudgetDtl.FiscalPeriod and GLBudgetDtl.FiscalPeriod <= 8) then 2 end) etc
