Hi All,

So now that E10 is released, are the beta testers allowed to discuss specifics?
If yes, are there any on this list that would be willing to share your thoughts?

We have a ton of Method Directives and Data Directive as well as custom .p files we created.
On top of that we also have a lot of UI customizations.

What is the upgrade process like with these type of things? Is there auto conversion from ABL to .Net or are there tools for this?
I suspect most of our upgrade work will come from getting these items converted and fully operational.

Also, are you finding that the 2X the performance claim to get accurate?

Do configurators, bpms, and BAQs all have to be re-written from scratch?

Not baq but the rest yes

Upgrading customizations wasn’t as hard as I originally thought it would be.  C# is a much easier language to deal with and some of the added features in BPM & BAQ are pretty cool.

So…I know that “yes” was to having to rewrite everything (except BAQs) from scratch but is there no conversion tool at all for converting ABL code to C#?
We have method directives, data directives, customer .p files, and configurators that will need to be converted and I’m just trying to gauge what the workload will look like for conversion.

When you say, except BAQs does that include calculated fields or do those need to be rewritten too?

What about UI customization written in C#. Do those basically just work or is there a considerable amount of work needed there? Are there significant changes to method call parameters, control GUIDs, and BO’s in general?

Joe & everyone –

Epicor has a converter tool that is on EpicWeb for converting ABL to C#. While no language translator is perfect it will get you started.

Thank Calvin.
I’m off to take a look.
I certainly wouldn’t expect a miracle. I remember using the converter for VB.Net to C# and even that wasn’t perfect but anything is helpful. :)

Joe,

I have a bunch of “starter” code snippets I saved off if you want to look at some simple syntax as well.

Thank Calvin.
I’m off to take a look.
I certainly wouldn’t expect a miracle. I remember using the converter for VB.Net to C# and even that wasn’t perfect but anything is helpful. :)

Epicor has a converter tool that is on EpicWeb for converting ABL to C#. While no language translator is perfect it will get you started.

Joe,

Here are just a couple.  I have been able to do things in C# I couldn’t figure out in ABL.  So I am liking it a lot.  We had hundreds of customizations and I converted them all myself in about a 3 month period (excluding the configurator, which I am just starting now).  That was including learning the language.  If you need other samples  just let me know.  I copy paste these into everything I write and then tweek it.

FIND FIRST

Erp.Tables.XXX XXX;

var XXX_Recs = (from XXX_Row in Db.XXX

                where XXX_Row.Company == Session.CompanyID

                && XXX_Row.YYY == ZZZ_Recs.YYY

                select XXX_Row).FirstOrDefault();

{

                var XXXRow = XXX_Recs;

                if (XXX_Recs != null)

                }

}              /*** XXX ***/

Joe & everyone –

Epicor has a converter tool that is on EpicWeb for converting ABL to C#. While no language translator is perfect it will get you started.

Thank you in advance,

So…I know that “yes” was to having to rewrite everything (except BAQs) from scratch but is there no conversion tool at all for converting ABL code to C#?
We have method directives, data directives, customer .p files, and configurators that will need to be converted and I’m just trying to gauge what the workload will look like for conversion.

When you say, except BAQs does that include calculated fields or do those need to be rewritten too?

What about UI customization written in C#. Do those basically just work or is there a considerable amount of work needed there? Are there significant changes to method call parameters, control GUIDs, and BO’s in general?

Good Day Jose:

            By “connect” do you mean the old “Service Connect” system, or something new?

            I found service-connect to be too demanding in terms of line-coding needed.

Yeah Vic you just click connect in excel and all of epicor becomes Sheets in your workbook. You update it all there and when you hit save it syncs back to Epicor its awesome!

Hi All,

So now that E10 is released, are the beta testers allowed to discuss specifics?
If yes, are there any on this list that would be willing to share your thoughts?

We just had our E10 launch event in Auckland yesterday, and they told me the same thing :(

Did Epicor change the number of digits for part number in Epicor 10.

According to the Data Dictionary in 10.0.700.4, the Part.PartNum field is defined as a 50 character (nvarchar) text field, which is the same as it was in 9.05.702a.
