What needs to be changed in the Client Config file?

Jose,

I did not know that. Always changed it on the client config.

Hello, we just recently upgraded from 904 to 905.702  and currently have had a couple of users experience the 7224 error. We are on a Wide Area Network (WAN).

Has anyone found a fix for this issue?

Thank you in advance.

Cyril Balonwu

Has anyone encountered and solved the epicor 7224 error?

If so, what was the fix?

Thank you.

Cyril

Can you expand on the error? What does the actual message say?

The error reads like this "Tried to call a method in an invalid procedure. (7224)".

Epicor support says it is a disconnect issue.

I guess the packets are being dropped over the WAN.

Thanks

Cyril

Have you checked if you are loosing packets?

ping -t yourserver >mydata.txt from the WAN side for 30 minutes to an hour (depending on how fast the error comes up in epicor) if its random it may not work so well

then look at the mydata.txt file and see if any packets where lost / dropped. (Other option is wireshark or another network tool but ping will work)

also look at your latency on those packets

If you loose even one packet or two… that's likely your issue, unfortunate epicor is not very good at dealing with a crappy connection. You'll get those errors and disconnects and stuff like that. If that's the case I would suggest you look into why packets are being lost. Are you doing site to site VPN? MPLS? Wan Accelerators? what?

YOu could go to a Terminal Server environment so that the connection is not a huge issue but that would require a decent server to run the TS. You could go to EWA but *SHUDDER* no one has ever ventured into that direction its... well unpleasant.

We are on MPLS.

Thank you Jose.

I’ve seen this occur with the smallest of “blips” across a WAN or VPN.

If you’re on a MPLS WAN, we had to get with our provider and adjust priorities (OSPF).

Vantage/Epicor is very sensitive.

If you are on E9 make sure you are using the Network Compression setting for the user.  It makes a big difference.

How do you configure Network Compression setting for E9. Is that a Windows or E9 setting?

Thank you Jose.

The user should also be set to “Can Suspend”  this will handle minor fluctuations in the time space continuum.

In my case, the "Can Suspend" is set for the users and they still get 7224 errors randomly.

Thank you.

Cyril

It is a setting in User Account Maintenance in the Options tab.

How do you configure Network Compression setting for E9. Is that a Windows or E9 setting?

If you are on E9 make sure you are using the Network Compression setting for the user.  It makes a big difference.

In E9 User Account Maintenance go to the Options Tab.  Lower Right hand corner there is Enable Network Compression” .  You can use the EP Performance Diagnostic Tool to test the difference between using compression and not using it over a WAN

We get this randomly quite a bit on our Vantage 8.03 as well.  Is there any similar selection for the “can suspend” in 8.03?

The user should also be set to “Can Suspend”  this will handle minor fluctuations in the time space continuum.

We use OpenSSL over a 12/3 cable line so certainly not an ideal pipe...  I only got Epicor to run reliably when turning Network Compression off.  I would think that over an MPLS you should be ok once that is on, otherwise start looking at some gateway bottlenecks maybe? We had some issues with our Cisco PIX causing the issues too, so we replaced that with a PFSense box. Once the dust was all settled Epicor runs as well over our VPN as it does at work, with the exception of customization mode, that takes a small toll in the screen loads.

What exactly does “Network Compression” do?  I get this error when I walk out to the plant floor w/ my laptop, when it changes wireless points.  And it would kill me to remember to suspend or shut down when they are screaming that they can’t run a job.

It should jump from one to the next without causing an issue? Are they the same SSID and all that, or are they meant to be separate networks? I don't know that network compression would help you in this case.  If everything is designed to be one SSID across the board what APs are you using.  We found that the Cisco's Epicor recommended caused us some issue with that. Since replacing them we've not had any trouble with hopping disconnects.

Network compression does what the name says it compresses the data that is sent through the network.

Epicor uses .NET Business objects to push data around those are usually passed around as giant XML documents and with compression it takes the XML compresses it down to binary (or similar) blob and sends it to the server where it get decompressed and processed. It shouldn't help with network issues but it will help with speed across the WAN.

If you get this error from jumping WAPs then you need to make sure that your WAPs don't have any gap between them (that is that there is overlap of coverage so that you don't go to a dead zone) and also make sure they are set to be extenders and not unique SSIDS
