Hi all,

Not trying to splinter the existing group, but there is a dedicated yahoo group now for Epicor 9 if your interested:

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/epicor9/?yguid=387559467

Thanks

You can always try a new group but there's a lot more in common with Vantage
8 and Epicor than Vantage 6 and Vantage 8 and people have seemed to coexist
for awhile. I see the Epicor 9 group is unmoderated. You might want to
moderate the group if a.) you don't want Yahoo! spammers sending all kinds
of cr@p to you. b.) you don't want Epicor competitors farming your
information.

Perhaps one of the mods for *this* group should create a poll, but in my opinion, a separate Epicor 9 group is unnecessary, and the goodwill and support that we've created here might be difficult to duplicate in a separate group. V8 and E9 are so very similar that there's a lot of crossover, and there aren't that may E9 customers out there yet.

Regarding 2008 64-bit, here's what we did.

We installed 2008 core server (hyper-v) and then made several virtual 2008 servers. The 64-bit one works fine and E9 and components work for the most part. We had problems with the Progress Explorer Tool not working in the 64-bit environment, but installing this on another workstation seemed to remedy the problem. There's always the configuration files you can manually edit if you feel brave enough. You will need to either modify the built-in firewall to open up the communication ports or disable the firewall in 2008. Recommendation would be to turn off if you are already behind a corporate firewall at least in the beginning to rule out any security issues.

I'm with Brian on this. We're still on v8 but hoping to move to v9 later this year.

I like seeing the issues users are having with v9 - tells me what to test for our companies.

Also you don't need to on a particular version to be interested in issues with Crystal, networks, OT subjects and perhaps answer them.

Spliting off those few users who are currently on v9 will mean that they don't have access to a huge wealth of knowledge within this group. Unless they watch both groups which is not something I would want to do.

Just my 2c,

Nigel.

Just thought I'd give my two cents worth...

I am on a different CRM platform than Vantage so I found a yahoo group for that software (it wasn't moderated), signed up and then I constantly got "looking for a female lonely friend" emails. Obviously not exactly helpful when trouble shooting CRM issues.

I'm looking for some help in finding out who is actually live running Epicor 9. We are looking for references. We are also currently running Vantage 6.1 on Progress. Our Sales rep has gone from telling us that they originally had 30-40 customers live a month ago. Late last week he change his tune telling us that they have 10-15 customers. At this time, He hasn't given me any references yet either.

I'm also having lots of problem converting our Unit of Measures to the new Class structure that Epicor 9 is going to. Has anyone figured this out?

Any information would be helpful.

As far as EWA - it is not ready for prime time! We are on 9.04.503B. The .504 release was supposed to be out end of April, but still no release date. We are waiting on a number of fixes and resolutions and was told that .504 "should take care of them"... If you are thinking about installing now, I wouldn't do ANYTHING until after at least .504, if not for .505!

Our intent was to roll this product out to our companies versus the client based solution. A number of reasons, but mainly - remote sights, client installation added desktop support, Microsoft desktop requirement, PC's on the shop floor, etc... many more! We have tested it on IE and Firefox. It works in both, but much faster in Firefox.

Thought I would throw this out there for now. I would be more than happy to go into more detail and/or share our experiences.

There is little, if any, discernible performance difference between
the 32 and 64 bit incarnations unless you are implementing on an Open
Edge DB in excess of 2GB in which case the limitations of the 32 bit
JRE preclude the ability to cache the DB into memory beyond 2GB. 32
bit SQL Server can be configured to utilize AWE and utilize extended
memory to the limit of the OS so it doesn't have the same limitation.
In either configuration, we have seen implementations exceeding 150
concurrent users running quite well on 32 bit systems.

Are you saying you pulled Epicor 9 off of Windows Server 2008 because Crystal can't run on it? If so, then why is Epicor even supporting it on that platform?

Unless you are attempting to render a Crystal report on the server,

We did not pull Epicor 9 off of the Win2008 server. For clarity, here is our config:

Epicor 9.04.503B on SLES 10.
OpenEdge 10.1C SP2 on SLES 10.
Firefox 3.0.10 (also tested with IE7)
Any Epicor Microsoft requirements were loaded on the Win2008 server - which included Crystal. EWA forms are loaded on the same server which runs IIS.

Crystal Embedded Server failed on the load to Win2008. So, kept it on the Win2003 server. Modified config files to make sure all paths were correct.

As far as running the client version at 32 bit, it should run fine. Not saying it cannot run in Win32 environment, just noting that the Hardware Guide specs pretty much point to Win64.

We are going to Epicor Perspectives in Vegas. I here a lot of chatter regarding 9. I thought this platform was not available till then. How is it some members are already using it. Did I miss something?
