The need isn’t for BI reports or dashboards we already have countless options for those.
What I’m referring to are the traditional pieces of paper – Invoices, Quotes, Order Acknowledgments, etc. Programs like Power BI and Grow, among others, are designed to be viewed dynamically on screens.
What I really want is the ability to easily print well-designed, professional-looking documents from my system without the hassle and frustration.
There were rumors that Epicor was intending to replace SSRS for many of the reasons mentioned here. When I asked at Insights this year, I was told that they had considered it but ruled it out because there wasn’t any sort of defacto standard to replace it with.
It seems there’s no going back to Crystal and Microsoft has apparently given up on SSRS. Take my vote, but my outlook is bleak.
One thing I really like about SSRS is the ability to export to alternate formats Excel, CSV, etc. Our accounting department loves their auto-Excel reports. Crystal was never good at exporting to Excel.
As someone who has about 15+ years developing on the MSFT business intelligence stack. SSRS in Epicor is hot garbage with all the hoops to jump through to get data (any data, not even the correct data) to work on an Epicor SSRS report. You got my vote.
Am I the only one who likes SSRS? When I had to first learn it, I was crying like a big old baby. Now that I have been using it for a while, I actually prefer it over Crystal.
Have you done anything advanced with it? Subreports, Page Breaking, etc? It is sooo bad at that. We have a packing slip report that works fine as long as you print a non specific number of packing slips…
You print 2 is fine
You print 8 is fine
You print 10,11,14? The pages break funny, and extend all over the place. It is completely arbitrary and inconsistent we’ve never been able to fix it.
Yes, I have done lots of advanced things with it. I agree that there is a learning curve, but once you pass that, I have found it easier to do things than in Crystal. Also, now that I have to use Crystal again, I am finding some things that are harder to do in Crystal than in SSRS.
The Report Designer sucks there is so much they could improve but it’s abandoned by Microsoft. I’ve had to go into the report RDL file with NP++ to fix s***t so many times.
Yes, Quick Ship uses Crystal still and I’ve had to relearn how to use it. I’ve already mentioned doing Excel exports is cake in SSRS but a PITA in Crystal.
Just like current SSRS, onsite only plus added shenanigans to deliver to SaaS users. Power BI Report Builder doesn’t speak HTTP, otherwise I’d be using it already!
