Run external exe from kinetic client not working

The ability to faster design complex screen with Visual Studio instead of Epicor archaic visual designer.
We too have developped about a dozen of DLL’s called by a UD form where for sure will not work in the web Kinetic. (and to work in classic, I still need to re-compile them… so not great for upgrades… )

3 solutions:

  • Redo them as .Net webapps.
  • Redo them within the kinetic app studio (most work needed).
  • Have a .Net app that users would open locally to access all the special apps (least work needed …drawback: apps are not available as menus as they are avalable right now… not ideal, but functionnal…giving us time to redo in Kinetic maybe…)

I’m headed in all 3 directions, depending on complexity and use case.
#3 is my last resort however.

Wow, glad this one was patched: “mailto:test%…/…/…/…/windows/system32/calc.exe”.cmd"

I could use that to send/compile/run arbitrary code on peoples pc with little or no interaction.

Sorry we turned your thread into a free for all

But anyway, welcome to EpiUsers. There is a wealth of information here and generally nice people to help.

I understand the value in them in general.
I was trying to gauge Liz’s specify need to identify if it’s the appropriate route to be taking.

We’ve all become de-facto consultants now.

Where is my check?

I remembered when it was and that’s why I posted it here.

It would for me too, but being limited in resources (hello lonely Epicor admins out there ! ) to perform any migration, it would be the fastest track to follow, in order to be web Kinetic for all! 1 year is not enough time…so much to do!

I might should have specified it was an example and proof of concept, not an implementation guidline.

It’s the same process as so many other primarily web-based software that have a desktop application as a complement. It’s completely valid if implemented properly.
