We have operations specifically for CMM. Users just claim the pieces they inspect. We typically CMM small qty high value items, so the sampling rate is 100% (thus equal to job qty), but otherwise the procedure is to claim inspected units.
Note that our quality equipment and people are physically separate from the machines and machinists. So, from our perspective, it really is a separate operation. We don’t really use the FAI feature for CMM’ed parts. It’s just a piece that is being inspected before the previous operation is complete and the system handles concurrent work well enough.
We do not have separate setup and production ops, as that’s anti-pattern to how Epicor is meant to flow. Each operation contains setup and prod times. You can even set up different hourly rates for setup and prod time in Resource Group Entry.
