2024.2 Warning - Importing a BPM can delete all existing ones

Version 11.3.100.15 / 2024.1 → 2024.2

Known Issues:

I don’t know if this was an issue in earlier versions, but when I used the Kinetic BPM Designer to import a BPM (ironically @klincecum ExportAllTheThings) in our 2024.2 Pilot environment, I selected an existing directive group to import the BPM into and selected the Replace Existing Group checkbox. When the file imported, it deleted ALL of the BPMs in the directive group I selected. I had to have support restore the site to get them back.

I have a ticket in and am working with support, but I wanted to give the group a heads up, especially since folks will be moving code around environments in anticipation of the 2024.2 upgrade this weekend.

I will post any PRB’s or significant updates to the ticket here.

(PS - I don’t know why, but posting this forced me to select (2) tags…there were none existing for 11.3.200.4 or 2024.2, so I created them, but it wouldn’t accept them and still wanted me to select existing tags. The ones selected do not represent the contents of this post). fixed

Welp…it turns out that this is intended functionality. Looking at the field help, the definition for the checkbox states:

Indicates whether the directives in the existing group will be replaced or extended by the imported directives. If this check box is selected, the system deletes the directives in the existing group and replaces them with the imported directives. If the check box is clear, the system leaves the existing directives intact and adds the imported directives into the selected group.

In my opinion, there should at the very least be a warning before the process starts that “all directives in the selected group will be deleted” or something like that. It was not obvious to me that this is what the checkbox’s intention is.

Anyway, I created an Epicor Idea. Go vote if you press buttons without understanding what they do, too.

I’m sorry this happened, and glad you got back going, but that’s pretty damn funny.

If you hadn’t done it, you could have backed them all up pretty easily lol.
