2Gb Limit

Brian,

This is something you will need to deal with by hand.

There are two ways to structure your database once it approaches the 2GB
file size limit: multi-extents or enabling large extents.

If you choose to enable large extents (the command you found in the
knowledgebase), be aware that it is a permanent choice. To reverse it you
would have to do a dump and load. I don't know why you would ever end up
needing to go back to an older version of progress, but if you did, you'd
have to do a dump and load to get there. Also, large extents are still
subject to operating system single file size limits.

Going to multiple extents has the potential to increase your performance,
especially if you can put each extent on its own (physical) disk. Choosing
which tables to split off into which extent will also affect performance.
Epicor tech support can help you with this option.

I know that Progress used to have a 2Gb limit on the database size, but that
was changed with 9.1C, I believe. According to an article I read on the
epicor knowledgebase, you can issue a command to allow the database to go
past 2Gb. Does anyone know if that has already been done in Vantage 5.2, or
do you have to issue the command manually? Our database is fast approaching
that point.

Thanks
Brian
