[6.1]Move to Standard costs

Joe, do you recall who you talked to Epicor about getting the conversion
program? Was it made available thru the Epicor custom programming group?

thanks,

A few years ago we switched from average to standard and Epicor sold us a
conversion program that did all the work.

We plan on moving from average to standard costs in Vantage 6.1. Are
there any recommendations on the easiest way to convert? Especially
uploading the costs from an Excel spreadsheet into the Db.

I was on average cost for years but would always have the standard cost calculated and populated for comparison. Just make a cost set, calculate, and update (post) the cost set. If values do not match this spreadsheet you speak of then various parameters in Vantage have different assumptions for various things like labor rate, labor cost, set-up hours, etc., etc.. Don't worry, you have not really changed anything assuming your parts are all still checked as average cost in part maintenance. Next, I'd generate a report comparing the current average cost to this new standard cost and review anything that looks funny. If your BOMs are good and you have realistic lot sizes in part maintenance there should not be wild differences.

Even being on average cost, it was very important to me that Vantage was calculating standard cost properly since for the most part, my quoting can be off if I have incorrect workcenter, operation, etc. values.

Once you decide to change a part from average to standard cost by changing the checkbox in part maintenance, any inventory balances will have their values adjust with a ADJ-CST entry. I'd recommend doing them all at the same time so that the total of all the ADJ-CST transactions are due to the change from average to standard.

Norm,
In addition to what Greg said, you also can't change the cost method on a part if there is a quantity in inventory, so you have to zero out the inventory, change the cost method and then re-enter the inventory quantities (at least as far as I know) (6.1.543).
