(6.1) Progress Database Shuts Down!

You can check your database log, look for the last restart is should have a
listing near the end for "large database size enabled". If not you hit the
2gb wall.

Okay, while I am on hold trying to get support, maybe you guys can help.

Our Progress database has shut down twice today and I get this error in the
Application Event log on the server:

Unable to extend database within area Schema (8997)

Of course there was a little be more info but probably not relevant.
Anybody see this before?

Sounds like you may have reached your 2GB maximum db size. Did you ever
extend your db schema to accommodate db sizes greater than 2GB?

Is your drive where the DB resides full, or do you have disk quotas enabled?

I would guess you have run into the 2GB per DB extent limit of
Progress. Hope you didn't have weekend plans :(

If you have paid for tech support, let them walk you through it. It
would be a good time to catch anything odd going on. You essentially
have to define max size on one database file, and setup the definition
for next - the files get created through probackup and prorest commands.
This actually happened with us last Friday. Sooner or later it will
consistently bomb and only stay up for minutes at a time.

The whole process will probably take an hour or so, depending on luck
and speed of server.

Good luck,

Todd, If he is on 6.1, Progress 9.1d doesn't that automatically extend

Actually I think that is correct - looking back at my log file, there
was a much more apparent error coupled with the one mentioned earlier -
"2gb size limit reached" or something to that effect. I think you would
be crashing more often than twice in a day if it were the db file size
thing.

Well it just started bombing after a few minutes.

I went to the Answerbook, and read that all I need to do was run this:

proutil mfgsys -C EnableLargeFiles (hope I am not violating any rules)

I did and it took no time at all.

Am I a missing something?
