6.1 Upgrades Blank Title 110203

Personally, based on various experiences with multiple customers, most of
the time it's better to look into migrating from 6.1 to 9.05 versus
upgrading.

The use of the DMT tool to filter, clean up, and reload your data into a
clean DB is generally a much much better option.

There are massive changes from 6.1 to 9.05 and for all intents and purposes
I would consider it a completely new program, and would consider it a new
implementation, not really an upgrade.

Making a jump like that is a good opportunity to do a thorough cleaning of
your database.

The only downside is losing some history, but in the long run, for DB health
and performance, I'd seriously consider the migration/re-implementation
route with the DMT tool over an upgrade of the DB.

Subject: [Vantage] 6.1 Upgrades

I remember seeing some members upgrading to E9 from 6.1 by jumping the
various releases. Did anyone ever do a write up on it or atleast some
instructions? I just spent today upgrading a test bed from 6.10.543 to
8.00.812A but I don't know if I can jump directly to 8.03.400 without doing
the original 8.03.3xx install. If anyone can point me to some resources, I
would appreciate it.

Thanks
-J

I don't know about the stuff before 8, but once you're there the order is:
8 > 8.03 > 9.05

8 > 8.03 is basically a rebuild/new-install. You'll need to load a separate
server using the standard Epicor instructions.

8.03 > 9.05 is the same process, but they have a tool that allows you to
skip 9 and go straight to 9.5. I believe you can get it from EpicWeb. There
are a couple threads about it, a quick search should turn them up. The tool
basically just runs all the conversions for you, so the process shouldn't
be too different.

I'm going hire Epicor to upgrade my database to 9.05 from 6.1 run in parelle until we get the bugs and procedure to an operantional status then do a second past of the 6.1 database to 9.05 to go live. Talk to Cam about this option.
Heads up, at Insights they announced a "PASS THRU" aka "Data Upgrade
Utility" which goes from 8.03.409C to 9.05.700.
