[6.10] Crystal Error 533 - One for the old timers

Thanks Jill. Yes, I had verified the DB (it said it was up to date) and also checked the path to the .mdb file. Yes, I am linking the .dbf file (MTLTAGS.DBF) to the Access DB tables. For grins changed from mapped drive letter to UNC path on the tables - still error.

When I run without print preview it prompts for printer and says (briefly) it is printing page 1 of 1 before issuing the 533 error. So I think it has content ready but can't connect to the print driver. I vaguely recall a Progress Error 533 issue related to printing. I tried printing to Acrobat to make a PDF file and it got past where I name the file before erroring. I had also emptied the local work folder.

It works great when previewed in Crystal developer (on my PC) but not from within Vantage (also on my PC) which really makes me think it is a Progress issue and not Crystal, data or local .DLL files. I am wondering if there is a server involvement and I need a different version of something there. I'm shooting in the dark because I don't know what is happening behind the scenes when Vantage runs a Crystal report. The Printer Selection window though is showing as a Prowin32 item on the task bar so I know there is some Progress involvement.

I'll do some more searching on web for Progress and Error 533.

Thanks again,
-Todd C.

Hello,

Error 533 means BADDATABASEFILE Something is wrong with the database you have specified. You may need to verify using the Database|Verify Database command. I believe you can verify the db in Crystal from memory. Are you sure the locations of all tables and are correct? Are you using both Vantage temp tables and joining with live tables? Check with Set Location command in Crystal.

Hope this helps...

I really need a hand with this if someone recalls the solution from days gone by. Been struggling with it for a long time now.

Trying to get Oper Description, Work Center and most important Customer name on Material Movement tags (PartTags). I have a small Access database with three tables as lookups. When I run it in Crystal Developer (8.5) is works fine but from within Vantage (Full or Shop Floor) it shows "Error 533" with no description what that error is. Not even sure if it is a Crystal error or from Progress but it happens as the Print Preview screen starts to come up. I have searched the groups messages archives I maintain but there is no definitive answer. At one point I thought it was related to thin Clients running TS sessions on a server that is also running Crystal 2008 but I can now duplicate it on my PC.

I am wondering if there is a DAO or other related .dll file that needs to be in the DLL folder under the MFGYS61 folder that is related to accessing a database. I usually think of the client PC as needing such files but perhaps it has to be on the server side.

Any hints or suggestions would be very much appreciated. I know this used to come up somewhat frequently and there is probably a KB article on it but I can't access those anymore. There seems to be something specific in Vantage that is missing that is related to accessing data other than via the DBF files.

Thanks,
