We had to move all our master prints to a new storage server. The old one was too risky. This means that 5,500 file name references are now wrong. They are all UNC format (\\server\folder<file://\\server\folder>) because when we tried mapped drive letters it would not work. Aside from the shear numbers it also means checking the part out and back in to make each change. Way too many steps.
I've seen from time to time mention of a way to use ODBC and Access to do a bulk change. Not withstanding the general issue of something going wrong, and voiding support (which won't matter pretty soon anyway). This would seem to be a relatively safe change and I would test it in a copy of the live DB anyway. There should not be any links or references to the file name elsewhere in the database. All I need to do is a simple text replacement for the server name....keeping in mind this is 6.10 so none of the fancy stuff in V8 or E9.
Any thoughts on how to go about this, if it's even possible?
