Thanks Mark and Bob. This will work great for what I want to do.

Agreed on use any time. It's really there for
Project Analysis but I use it constantly on Part
master cleanup projects. The master
Classification table can also delete
classifications after you are done with
them....there will be some warnings where ever
Material Analysis uses a nomenclature you have
deleted but you just push through them or delete the information in the field

I am looking for a way to classify purchased parts according to MSDS and Environmental criteria to analyze purchases (or more to the point reductions in purchases). I see there is a field on the Part Master we are not currently using called Material Analysis Code. Does this have any impact anywhere else in the system or is this just for our use? Help mentions stuff about assemblies and such but on purchased parts I don't see this as an issue.

I was thinking of setting up a couple codes for our own analysis and this seemed like the perfect thing if it does not goof anything else up. Can I do whatever I want with this field?

Thanks,

You can use it without any issues. Unless you were doing some project costing, the field is fine to use and is generally accessible throughout reports and easy to access on existing tables for writing BAQs
