8.03.404 Blank Title 69898

This has been occurring since 305. Much more dangerous - you may also (not!) see suggestions when conditions exist where you should.

Deny, deny, deny from Epicor support - and now suddenly the problem is acknowledged in 406 (with a supposed fix).

The needless suggestions tend to go away for a part after 3-4 MRP runs.

The missing suggestions are scary and just dumb luck to find.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why po suggestions are showing suggestions for parts that are already on order?

Part Alpha has a min on hand of 5.

OHQ=1

Min Order Quantity = 15.

Quantity already on order = 15

Demand for the part shows a quantity of 4.

Is there a flag on the po or somewhere else that would tell the planning engine that something is on order and not show up?

Thanks

Carey

Depends on what version you are on.

Assuming 8.305x or better......

If you want to implement wireless barcode readers you will need the
"Handheld MES" module for Vantage. I do not recommend this. The
handheld GUI is horrible and clunky.

Now, what I do like is using a touchscreen MES terminal coupled with a
USB barcode scanner "wedge" (Symbol LS2208).

It really depends to what level you want to take your barcoding to. Are
you going to Pick with these or do you simply want to use Travelers to
ease input and improve accuracy?

If you want to go the wireless handheld route, then you will need a
wireless handheld (Symbol MC9090G) and they run about $4K each. All
they are is a PDA with a barcode scanner on the front. They run Windows
Mobile. Plus your Handheld MES module. You don't need AMM (Adv Mat'l
Mgmt) but they may try to sell it to you. You will also need wireless
infrastructure on the plant floor.

Another nice option I like are tablet touchscreen PC's and the USB
barcode scanner. Then you can avoid the purchase of the Handheld MES
module and use the full MES module or the normal Vantage UI. I have
purchased a few little roller carts for shop floor people to push around
for counts, picking, etc.

Using barcoding for Receiving is usually unrealistic because you need to
get each one of your vendors on board with your desired barcode needs.

Good luck.

No, we rarely have po's to jobs. Most things, such as this one, are controlled by min/max levels.

Will keep looking.
Thank you.

Thanks Vic,

We are currently on V6.0 and my task prior to this request was to get a
server setup with V8.0xx to get a look at it.

The request came from the production manager who is only concerned with
traveler entry accuracy. Material Control has expressed interest but
again I need to stress accuracy.

I'm sure the scanner is accurate but I'm not all confident that
the production personnel will reliably hit the correct barcode given
multiple choices on a traveler or Stockroom shelf.

Some more information.
Some digging around shows some interesting things: Change PO Suggestions shows a suggestion to expedit/reduce the same part.

For this part, the on order quantity shows 14. This is also the same value for min order quantity on part/plant.
Due and Req dates show 10/20/2008In Purchase Advisor, it shows on-hand of 5, alloc 4, and the part/plant record for the part shows min onhand 5.

So, this all looks right.
The thing that looks interesting is the time phase.
Here is the presented info:
It states a stasrting balance of 5 OHQ.
Then, for 10/16/2008 has 3 lines with 1 req each for corresponding FMRP jobs, bringing OHQ to 2.
It then shows the exception message that we are below min with an order by of october 15 (with a lead time of 1).
The next line shows 10/20/08 UNDER RECEIPTS of 15, with a req qty of 0 and a balance of 17. None have been received, so this is not real. I have the suggestions flag UNCHECKED, so I guess it is including this balance in time phase because it is EXPECTING them to come in today. The line source field is referencing the order/line/release number for the existing PO.

If I turn on the suggestions checkbox, I see additional information:

After my line for 10/20 RECEIPTS showing 15 for the previously placed po, I get a new line:
10/20/2008 Receipts -15, Balance = 2, Expedite PO 14220/5/1 ORDER BY 10/17/2008.
Then there is another suggestion for the 15, a reduction suggestion by 12, and then another purchasing suggestion for the min order quantity.

So, is it holding on to old change suggestions somewhere and this is what is causing my problem, even though on-hand-quantities have changed and the fact that I am selecting REGEN at the processing of po suggestions?

Carey

Definitely improves accuracy. Can also improve speed if you use compound field bar codes with <tabs> imbedded so a single scan fills out multiple screen fields.

A wedge reader plugged into a winterminal requires no special software.

If you want to go 100% wireless handheld, the investment is higher.
