8.03.408B MRP and Kanban

Instead: Kanban doesn't do forward looking open requirement netting. It just considers if your o/h is within you kanban min/max. (It is consumption based like a simple ROP and simply tries to get you back up to your defined max o/h at either the bin or whse level (depending upon where you implement it). (A pull system.)
Â
KanBan Bin Monitor (or Whse Monitor) don't DO anything but present the info. You (generally) still need a physical system to DO things (empty bar coded bin can be used to trigger job generation - or if process is bullet proof, you can use kanban receipts). We increasingly are doing fab kanban and the monitor programs add no value to our process as our processes are entirely bin/bar code driven (much like we did in the pre PC 80's). Kanban is inherently a blackbox trust (in your physical replen processes) system.
Â
Never been able to get KanBan POs to work on v8 305G thru current 409A (but a handful of others out there say they have).
Â
MRP looks forward and nets open requirements minus your set Min Avail & Safety that are treated as immediate requirements today (and or master scheduled period qty's or direct customer forecast). (A push system).
Â
Both can be run concurrently & MRP can help you detect spikes in demand that might otherwise overwhelm your kanban system (depending on your processes, LTs and customer service goals).

Currently using Kanban receipts and MRP for parts. We don't have visibility of QOH until backflush alot later in the process. Started playing with Kanban and Kanban monitor. Does it work with MRP or instead of MRP? We have both manufacture to stock and purchased parts. Our contract orders will be jobs which will get rolled up into the final assembly.
