9.05.700c Crystal report prompting for username and password

I have seen this prompt when resource data definition doesn't match the Crystal report. I have also seen it when the table links were not correct.

I have a report that for some reason is asking for a user name and password when the users run the report in the application.

When I try to open any report on my developer machine I get an error that says:This report could not be opened for writing. Any changes must be saved to a new file.

I have never seen this before and I have tried the sysprogress user name and password with no help.

Thanks in advance
Is this a new user or a user who had his/her PC rebuilt? I have found the first sentence problem when there is no ODBC setup done on the user machine.

Is it prompting for a network or a data source password? The error you're getting tells me the report is ready only (probably on a share). If the user doesn't have network access to that file location then they would get prompted. check the SET DATASOURCE LOCATION on your CR report. Ensure that that report data set is accurate to the XML file you created and tested with

It is a data source password and username. It is not an ODBC connection and it is not supposed to be. It is an ADO connection. No computers have been changed.
The dialog box that comes up is like this:

Database Login

Server Name:ReportDataSet
Database:
Login ID:
Password:
Use Integrated Security (checkbox)

Check to see if the XML file it is producing has all of the Data that the
report expects. If it is missing a table, the report will try to use the
datasource that it had when the report was developed. If the data is
missing and it is a new report, verify that the definition was set up
corrrectly in Epicor Report data maintenance.

If you are using a stored proc, make sure that "Public" or the specific
users have Excecute rights. Same for the Tables you are using. I've had
better luck with OLE DB -> SQL you can change this on the Set DB Location.

The not writing problem seems to be a file permissions, make sure your
\Epicor\Epicor905 foldder has Everyone with full control as the
instructions say etc.

Also seen this if the sysprogress or in our case the sa password is locked and has to be reset in our SQL Server Management studio>Security>Logins> sa> Properties. You can see if it is locked under the status option on the tree. If the Status "Login is locked out" check box is checked, uncheck it, go back to general option on the tree, and enter in your password again (x2)

Ok so I checked this option out and it is not locked. As i was looking at the available areas in the properties I clicked on "User Mapping" one thing that jumped out at me is that the Epicor905 database is not checked. My question is "is it supposed to be checked?"

It is NOT on my system either. If the account it not locked my experience is that it has to do with the ODBC setup on the client machine. Not having one, wrong SQL driver, etc. I haven't personnally had much issue on the xml side and database source side.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
I am getting the exact same prompt in 9.05.607b.

We have a crystal report embedded in a dashboard. When we run it as a Dashboard Runtime, it works fine. When it is run as a Dashboard Assembly (it IS an updatable Dashboard) we get the login prompt.

It worked fine before we added two fields: Part Average Cost and Part Description. The description has field security associated with it, read-only except for our Engineering group which is empowered to modify this field. My hunch is that field security + DLL assembly deployment = LOGIN PROMPT.

I have a case opened with Epicor for this, I'll convey the resolution when and if.

Cheers,
Chris

Replying to my own post with a solution provided by Beverly Sims of
Epicor -- which seems to work perfectly, thanks Beverly! Her advice follows ...
---------
When I ran the dashboard from within the dashboard designer (as a runtime dashboard) the dashboard ran and I was able to run the report. The report worked and did not ask me for a login.

However when I ran the report as a deployed or assembled dashboard I did get the user login prompt. So then I did the following 2 things in the Dashboard Designer and the dashboard report now runs correct when I do a Deploy > Test.

1) I uploading the latest rpt file using Tools > Report Tools > Download Report

2) I cleared the report cache using Tools > Report Tools > Clear Dashboard Report from local disk cache.

Afterward I was able to use the Test feature of the Tools > Deploy Dashboard to run the dashboard report and was not asked to login.
------
CAH 12/31/2012: I followed Beverly's steps and my Dashboard Assembly no longer prompts for the DB login. So it would seem to stem from a "stale" copy of the report in the C drive cache after modifications have been made and saved on the server. I will venture to say that the introduction of additional fields might also have something to do with this. Further one of my fields had field read-only security (part.description) so that might also be a factor.
