A little Blog Venting

Not the least of which is that other phone call "Anonymous" is sure to have received from someone at Epicor for not being a "team player". Been in those shoes already once several years ago after venting publicly outside the Vantage user community on a message board related to shareholders. Seems I poked an extra sensitive spot. Terrible way to try to communicate and I still wonder if it was just "loose cannon control" or if anyone paid any attention to the original reasons for the complaints.

Ah, the beauty of the internet.

I'm certain if one wanted, they could assemble an identical list for
Baan, SAP, Sage, MS Dynamics, Fourth Shift, QAD etc.....

I don't know one perfect bug-free ERP system out there.

Pobody's nerfect.

A lot of fluff on that blog. LOL!.

Reading this makes me a little sick to my stomach.

On one hand, I concur with some of the issues. Support turnarounds have been sucky lately and some stuff you just can't get support on. I'm still struggling to prove out a VPN deployment model vs. Citrix for my remote site. We were promised AR functionality in the sales process that took a year of runaround to determine would ultimately require a big customization and a lot of cash. Some things are quite buggy in 8.03.405 and there are lots of little issues that we bump up against that folks just don't have time to report or track much less contact support on, so we live with them.

Some stuff is reportedly fixed in .406 or .407, but upgrades require testing, and based on what I've heard here and at Perspectives, significant testing, as Epicor's regression testing doesn't seem to be very good (fixes create new bugs), and testing requires time I don't have.

On the other hand, I've found similar issues with every enterprise-oriented software package before, and overall Vantage is working well in our environment. I've spent a lot of time since implementation addressing the reporting and customization needs that have come up since, and although my efficiency is somewhat impacted by some of the flaws in toolset, I can say that we're getting significant business value out of our purchase. I don't think we're ready to start looking at real ROI, and measuring "what Vantage did for us" versus "what everything else we're doing has done for us" is pretty difficult.

I've been in this business a long time too, and things generally suck all over. I'm not naïve, and I came away from Perspectives with a sense that we partnered with a good technology provider and was excited about what I saw in Epicor 9. We also talked to several happy and productive customers prior to making our purchase decision and I've run into them at training classes, conferences, and user groups.

So where does the reality lie? There are clearly happy long-term Epicor customers out there, as those of us who have made buy decisions over the last year or two talked to them before we did so, and although those on this group tend to deal with the ugly side of Vantage stuff on a day to day basis, presumably at least for some of us our users just "use the system", and we're selling products and making stuff, and getting paid for us, even in this crummy economy. Or are there a bunch of really unhappy folks unwilling to say so because their reputations and maybe jobs are tied to the fact that they made the buy recommendation to their execs, so they're not willing to say they got a lemon?

It's rather ironic. The blogger wrote that one couldn't get a response from

Noticed that too, this morning. I downloaded that page and files from
