Access new fields in Vantage with Crystal

1. Search back through the messages. I posted some stuff about going from
4.0 to 5.2. 5.0 to 5.2 should be much easier.
2. Make the move on a test server first and really look at it in detail.
5.2 has a lot of changes form 5.1.
3. Get you users involved early and in depth and especially cross
functionally. Don't assume a particular change does not affect someone.
4. Do it on a support weekend if possible.
5. Close all groups and capture WIP/Costs - run some key "before" reports
and then again after each step (5.1/5.2)
6. Backup, backup, backup
7. Plan for admin details afterward like changing automated backup routines
8. Upgrade Crystal Reports to 8.5 - will need to set location and verify
database to update any reports/forms you have changed
9. On clients - uninstall old Progress, change drive maping to Epic52,
install Vantage client w/Progress 9.1D - in that order
10. Watchout for possible funny references in various .vtg routines that
specify \epic52\ even when that is included in drive maping

Subject: RE: [Vantage] Access new fields in Vantage with Crystal

I'm planning to go from 5.0 to 5.2 in a couple of weeks. I've never
upgraded 2 releases at once before. Is there anything I should be aware of
or any words of wisdom anyone can offer?

We are having difficulties in adding Vantage fields to our Crystal
forms, ie. we want to add a character field (VB Form generated) to
our Crystal generated Quote form. We do not know how to get these
new fields on as they do not appear in the database links. We are
running version 4.0 and Crystal 8.

Find out what the field's 'External name' has been set as. This is what it
will be called in crystal, prefaced by 2 letters pertaining to the table
it's located in. For example, in our Quote header VB form, we added a field
called 'terms'. This shows up in the crystal database field list as
QHTERMS, listed under the quotehed table.

After you add or change VB form fields, make sure you print preview the form
from within vantage. This creates all the fields in the dbf files.

Then, open crystal and do a 'Verify Database' (Database -> Verify Database).
Then, when you go to Insert -> Field Object, you should find your field.
