Adding Tables to the Database.?.?.?

Michael,

I too have added tables to our Database w/o any serious issues.

The only problem I had was when I tried to add a create trigger on a table
in the data dictionary. I wanted to populate a field with a sequence.
Vantage did not seam to permit this. When I placed the create trigger in my
executable instead of the Data dictionary it worked.

Has anyone added their own tables to the Vantage Database?
What type of problems are there?
What are the Do's and Don'ts?
What happens with Vantage updates?
What happens with major upgrades (RIO to Morocco)?

Michael Podlin.....
Michael,

I've added several tables to our Vantage database to work with our custom
application for Chemistry and Mechanical Certifications. I prefixed all my
table names with "z" (e.g. zAlloy) to avoid any future conflict with
Epicor - so far, so good.

The only DON'T I've run into (the hard way) is DON'T change any Vantage
table, don't even add an index, because Progress figures that since you've
made changes to "something," you now need to recompile ALL programs that
even refer to that table. Even though we do have the source code, this is
NOT something I intend to do again any time soon!!

We've been through one major upgrade (3.0 to 4.0) and numerous patches
without incident. All of our zTables got imported along with the regular
Vantage tables during the upgrade, and I've never had any problems with
patches.

As long as you only play with your own toys, uh, I mean tables, you
shouldn't have any problems.
