Alert Program for Global Alerts in Vantage 6.1

I've been reading through the forums. Is there any reason this would not work?

{ud/GlbAlert.i &TableName = "OrderDtl"}

ASSIGN Email-Subject = Email-Subject + " (" + MfgSys.OrderDtl.OrderNum + ")".

We plan to go live with Vantage 8 come first of the year. Until then, we
are stuck using 6.1. I recently solved a problem we had with the global
alerts, and they are being sent out correctly now. We use Terminal
Services to log in to our server that hosts Vantage, so the .VDL will
not work. I'm looking to add custom text to alerts when they are sent.
Right now, we have one that sends out each time the OrderQty changes.
This isn't very helpful without the Sales Order Number or the Order
Date. From what I've gathered, I need to write a .p to use as an Alert
Program to accomplish this. If that's true, could someone point me in
the right direction regarding what program I would use to write in, and
where I can find some basic syntax guides. I'm new to Vantage, as well
