The word “If” is carrying a lot of weight there and also many of our hopes.
Has anyone found any ERP’s they find interesting? We want to stay with MSSQL/On Prem. I am putting much of my time and effort into leaving Epicor as soon as possible instead of the forced transition to Kinetic. We are going to do our last Epicor upgrade soon and then we will be done with them. We are deep into Acumatica testing now and it is looking promising. The price is good. I like the UI better than Epicor. Customizations look good. They don’t seem to hate their customers. I was just wondering if anyone had seen an ERP I have missed.

It really depends on the type of business you are and the requirements for that industry. If you support automotive and have release accounting requirements, QAD is pretty good. If you’re just above QuickBooks, Dynamics 365 will work. We’re plastic injection molding, so we need family part capabilities (co-parts). Other ERPs don’t have this OOTB and rely on partners to make customizations. I believe this is Acumatica’s model.
Someone mentioned ERPNext (Open Source) in one of the threads and I took a quick look. I didn’t go too deep into the usability, but I did install it. It does seem to be fairly cloud first, where you can get a deployment package for docker containers, or even build your own image with the apps that you need (seems like they’re splitting some functionality from the ERP to different apps). Doing the easy install, I had a bunch of containers set up for all functionality in a few minutes. MariaDB, front end, back end, a few redis containers. Can’t speak to how good it is, but it definitely shows that’s is possible, and that it’s also possible for whoever wants/needs to be on-prem to do so with just one distribution path. Just have to make those available to customers.
IMO, this model can shine in ways OOTB never will. Provide a stable core and customization framework. Then a parter network (with a little attention) flourishes and solution market forms. Competition leads to customer choice among several best of breed add-ons.
