We’re encountering a generic “Server Error occurred” message that appears to users due to various reasons, such as application pool restarts, database server hangs/restarts, or connectivity issues.
The problem is that users can’t view the server event logs to troubleshoot the issue themselves. Additionally, the error might be temporary and resolve upon user re-login.
Suggestion:
To improve the user experience, let’s enhance the error message with more specific guidance. Here are some options:
- “Server Error occurred. Please try reloading the page or re-logging in. If the issue persists, review the server event logs for details.”
- “A temporary error has occurred. Please try again shortly. For further information, contact IT support.”
This will provide users with actionable steps they can take, and also clarify when to seek further assistance.
