Okay
Went live with new server over the weekend and we expect to go to 6.1 soon
So I mapped everyone's drive to E:\epicor\yada yada

Ran into a few problems
I have several users that have E: Drive already - They are ZIP Drives
Anyone know of a utility that will allow you to change the drive letter of a
zip drive?

Thanks again

Won't it allow you to change it using the computer management/disk management option?

With all the "accessory" drives various people have (CD + CD burner + Zip + memory stick reader, etc...), this is why I've always used V: as the mapped drive letter for Vantage. M: for Mfgsys might work as well and still be far enough up the alphabet to avoid conflicts.

As Jasper pointed out: Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Managment - Storage - Disk Management (local) and then right click on the drive letter for an option to change it.

They cant make up their mind where to put their product. It drives me nuts. Every upgrade requires me to change links to the temp directory and reports. All the custom apps (Visual Basic and Access) we launch from the Vantage menu that we store in the UD Directory has to be changed. I gave up and now map the V drive. I also have settled on the mfgsys directory to store vantage. I also changed the temp directory to just c:\temp. I also sticking with the same port numbers on the server. I wish they would leave this and the icons alone. It confuses our users to no end when the icon changes. I'm not sure why be we have three or four different vantage icons floating around. Everything from the red and blue "e" to the newer red "V" with the yellow background.

I usually use a different drive through different upgrades (recommended by
Epicor). I make the mistake of upgrading from 5.1 to 6.1. on my test server
and installed Progress 9.1D in the epic52 folder. Whenever you are about to
install 6.0, it tells you that you might need to map 2 different drives -
one for Epicor\mfgsys60 and another one for epic51\progress. I am running
out of drives to map as it is, so I installed Progress 9.1D in the shared
folder Epicor and had 5.2 read that folder while I updated the databases to
61. I now have only one drive mapped and it is working fine.

James, I would recommend for you to download the upgrade document from
Epicor to cover all the bases. Good luck on that implementation and hope
this helped a little.

James,

Who is telling you the preferred method is "E" ?

I have a bunch of machines that have 2 hard drives or split hard drives so
as a standard policy none of my networked drives letter assignments are
lower then -G-.

Is there some logical reason why -E- is 'preferred' because it just sounds
like trouble and a constant hassle of conflicting drive assignments.

You may also run into trouble with USB drives wanting to use the next
available drive letter on local pc's ...

Jeremy,

I'm with you on this one. Outside vendors do not dictate what drive letter
assignments I use internally. The other day I was trying to get a stock
exchange program to work for a broker from his home PC through a local
Linksys firewall. I just loved it when their tech support person told me
over the phone that the app worked just fine if I disconnected the local
firewall. Yea sure ...

We standardized our drive letter assignments a long time ago to clear up
confusion. I do agree with switching drive letters from version to version
just to be on the safe side. I alternate Vantage between "V" and "X" and
back.

You would think that by now MS would have let us use 'AA-ZZ' for drive
letters. Sure would make life easier.

If you are using anything older than Windows ME, you can bring up disk

This is just a message of curiosity, but how many people out there are
actually running Vantage Version 6.10?

We just moved from 5.20.322 to 6.10.500 this weekend, and ... Well
everything has been running fairly fine; however, there are some major
"things" that we have noticed not working in 6.10.

For example, the standard progress report of Production Detail is messed up
visually from the 5.20 version (extra rows and character errors).

The fonts in 6.10 is dreadful to most of my users here. In 5.20, everything
is bold and defined and thick for a font style, and now all the fonts are
super thin (if existent) and very messy. Extremely hard to see. Nothing
aligns to its column and we just can't seem to figure out why the fonts are
like this (Epicor seems to have never heard of this issue either).

So while these are not major show-stoppers, they are inconvenient. Anyone
who is on 6.10 I'm sure you would have had to notice some of these that im
talking about. Anyone run into this yet who is on 6.10?

There was a posting on here a month or so ago about how to fix the 6.1 font issue. I think the person copied the font settings from their previous version to the new one. I think its the mfgsys.ini file. You might search the achieves.
Hope that helps,
Jeremy

Jessee,

We are on 6.0. During one conversation with Tech support they managed
to annoy all our users by asking me to modify my mfgsys.ini file with
the following settings.

font23=MS Sans Serif,size=10

font24=Courier New,size=10

We had the opportunity to see fonts as you are now I believe. We did
not like it and had to switch it back to our default settings to keep
the system usable. Those settings (just in case you find your fonts are
set as above) are:

font23=FixedSys

font24=FixedSys

I would say try it at your own risk, but it would seem it could not get
much worse.

Good luck,

Let us know if this works. Also if it does, submit an enhancement
request. I would be happy to jump on that one before we make the jump.

Thanks,

We have been on 6.1 since 1/17/04. We called tech support about the
font issue on 1/19/04, and that's the response we got. All my "over-40"
users couldn't read any of the screens!! I didn't know which font was
changed (neither did tech support), so I copied the font section from
ver 6 of the .ini file to the ver 6.1 ini file.

I can't for the life of me understand why Epicor does things like
this!!! Why change the fonts in the first place? After they changed the
fonts, did they bother to see how it affect the rest of the program??

My installs of Vantage have always been on my physical K drive, and I change
the mapped drive--it was V for one version, is U now, will probably go back
to V for 6.1. That's about as complex as I can manage. I know that I had
a problem once when I used the same MAPPED drive for 2 different versions of
Progress...won't do THAT again. Trouble comes when you have to redirect all
of your reports.

THE Prefferred method for Vantag 6.0 is E Drive for Epicor
Since we will be going to 6.1 soon I figured I'd set it at E:

The fonts in 6.10 is dreadful to most of my users here. In 5.20,
everything
is bold and defined and thick for a font style, and now all the fonts
are
super thin (if existent) and very messy. Extremely hard to see. Nothing
aligns to its column and we just can't seem to figure out why the fonts
are
like this (Epicor seems to have never heard of this issue either).

So while these are not major show-stoppers, they are inconvenient.
Anyone
who is on 6.10 I'm sure you would have had to notice some of these that
im
talking about. Anyone run into this yet who is on 6.10?
