APM Plus & Altec doclink

Here's the .p program I trigger from the BAM when PackNum on the InvcDtl table changes. In essence, the code gets run when accounting creates an invoice from the shipment. It is dependent on other customizations I have made which put information in various UD fields. Here are the fields I can remember:

ShipHead.CheckBox01Â Â Â Â Â Â Â TRUE=Invoice has been emailed
InvcHead.ShortChar01Â Â Â Â Â Â Assigned by my .p program from Shipvia.Description
InvcHead.ShortChar02Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Assigned by my .p program from Shiphead.TrackingNumber or Shiphead.ShortChar01 (Pro Number)
CustCnt.CheckBox01Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Flag to indicate this customer contact wants the Invoice emailed to them

Is anyone here using Epicor APM plus with Altech doclink for EDM software?
We are currently looking at EDM software and trying to decide between
Epicor's bolt on modual, which is made by Altec or software that our copier

Sorry Norm, I am going to answer this on this group as well since I am also interested in hearing what people have to say.

Â
Before you make ANY move to purchase the ALTEC/Doc-Linc/APM Plus through Epicor, I would STRONGLY suggest that you understand what you are getting into.
Â
This install will require you to hire Epicor. Their installation instructions DO NOT work and when you call support, you will only be told “you should have hired Epicor to do the install”.
Â
Next, you will come to the training aspect. Epicor has absolutely NO documentation for you to use.  You will be told to “hire Epicor to train”. Altec has no documentation either.
Â
This package is horribly expensive to begin with and then factor in the additional costs of everything I just mentioned and it becomes a budget buster..
Â
Do a cost/benefit analysis before you go any further as there is no real “interface” to the Vantage application.
Â
If you would like, you can call me directly as I did the install of this product, it took MONTHS and I have still not completed the install since our project has been put on temporary hold.

We use Altec/Doc-link/APM/Scanlink through Epicor. We definitely had problems with it in the beginning. Lots and Lots of frustration on our end and from our customers. Support really didn't/couldn't help us much. We had to get Altec support involved. Only after several webex sessions and an APM upgrade can we finally say that the product is stable and running well.

Blake; What version are you running?

2.6 includes the ability to have different 'from' email addresses and I inquired if Epicor was going to provide the 2.6 version - the response I got was not what I had hoped......

I have installed 'APM' several times on test servers and never really had any problems getting it running..... I have run into an issue where upgrading our APM db using the upgrade scripts on the E9 media set (to upgrade db from 2.5.28 to 2.5.31) does not alter a stored procedure that needs to be altered. (but that is what test environments are for ;-)

We are running Version 2.4.341 Build 17. I have no plans to upgrade because the last time we upgraded… APM was shutdown for two weeks. Epicor could not perform the upgrade so Altec support had to perform it. The first pass they had bad scripts and it was about two weeks later before they finally got the correct ones installed for us.

We are using APM.

We use it to e-mail po's, BOL's invoices etc. Version 2.5 which is soon to be replaced with 2.7 I believe allows you have a return reply e-mail as well as other enhancements. In other words if I send a PO to a vendor(via e-mail) the address from is (example) noreply@...<mailto:noreply@...>. This isn't bad, but the only problem is some people think its spam and delete it. You can add a tag message to the e-mail stating what the document is which helps. Overall it's a good program and the price is fairly reasonable.

We haven't gone to in depth with it. As far as I know you can almost go paperless if your company is disciplined.

Hope it helps a little.

2.7 ??

2.6 was released almost a year ago by Altec and Epicor has no plans to offer it as an upgrade.

I can not find any info on 2.7 on the Altec-inc website ??
I just got word this morning that 2.6 has gone GA and is now available from Epicor. Hit up your CAM.

We use APM and Doc-link. We paid Epicor to install it. It works pretty good for us. We use it to e-mail daily scheduled reports, PO's, Sales acknowledgements and keep backup copies of invoices since we can't reprint certain invoices due to tax connect bugs. This has been a stable 3rd party software and I've had good support from Epicor, and when necessary, they've gotten Al-tec to webex in and fix the problem. We haven't gotten the fax portion to work, but I think thats a problem with our fax or network. Occaisionally we have problems with outside recipients - where we e-mail the document (and can see it's gone out) and the recipient does not always receive it because it is blocked somewhere along the way or goes to junk mail.
We went live with APM in September of 2007. It did take some work to get it going but it has been an indispensible part of our business. We send out approximately 100 invoices per day with little to no effort and no customer complaints. We also use APM for Sales Order Acknowledgements and Purchase Orders.

We did do some customizations on the customer master and crystal forms to give us more flexibility to get the documents to the correct person at our customer.

We have also done work with scanning customer paperwork to get rid of lots of file cabinets.

I would be happy to discuss details of this with you offline. I also have some information I can email to you.

We also have APM, but have never used it. When it came to setting up a way to email Sales Orders and advance shipping notifications I went with the .P file being launched from a BAM approach. With some customizations this has worked great for us. It also had an added advantage. We send out the shipping notifications when the Invoice is created from the Pack ID. Recently, we needed the tracking information to be automatically pulled into the Invoice. All I had to do is add a few extra lines of code to my shipping notification program to pull this off.
