Assigning Users to Alert Groups

Thanks Chris. I now have everything set up. Now, I have another problem.

The email alerts don't work. The only alert I have ever received previously was
"Customer Credit Hold Status has been Changed". That may be because that is a
Global Alert. None of these shop warnings send an alert. Have we got something
set up wrong? We've never really had email working so perhaps it's a set up
issue?

Again, any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Kerry Travis, CGA

Subject: [Vantage] Assigning Users to Alert Groups

Good afternoon all,

Hopefully this isn't as dumb as it sounds.

I set up an alert group called Production, and assigned alerts to it.

Now I can't find where to assign users to the group. Help tells me "When you
set up users, you can assign users to alert groups". I can find a place
anywhere in User Security that offers me an option of "Alert Groups". So now I
have a Group set up, alerts assigned, email box checked off, and nowhere for
the alert to go.

I'm confused.

Please help.

Thanks a lot,

We switched from Paycheck to adp. I think adp has better software and has more
services available.

Tom,

Do you mean Paychex?? I couldn't find "Paycheck" anywhere when I Googled it.

We used Paychex for several years, but found it expensive for our operation. We
only had 10 to 15 people, and it cost us $350.00 plus per month. We just
switched to Intuit this year, and are very happy. They charge the same amount
per month, regardless of the number of payrolls run. So, currently, we are
paying about $70.00 per month. It is easy to use, easy to set up, the employees
can log in and view their own information etc.Â

Also, with Paychex, we had to enter the information, and then someone else
re-entered it into their system, sometimes resulting in errors, people not
getting paid etc.Â

Just my two cents worth.

Although Paychex is not cheap, our experience is that they are very good with things like tax filing compliance, which saves us when compared to possible penalties for missed filings. Customer service is very good. We have about 80 employees and we don’t pay much more than your were paying.

Also, I have set up automated data input, which creates a file to import directly into the Paychex system. If someone does not get paid, it is because he failed to clock in properly.

In short, Paychex works well for us. One cautionary note – in my experience, and the experience of other accountants who I correspond with, there is a wide variation in payroll services depending on the local branch. Some local branches of ADP are excellent. Others are awful. Some local branches of Paychex are excellent. Others are awful. So, the caution is get local references and check them before you change payroll processors.
