I just love Friday on this list. And I agree with Aaron. Deleting the
"stuff below" now, but I don't always remember to do it. Sorry.

I believe this is out of your control, but..... It would be really cool
if users like me could get the "Digest" hyperlinked in order to jump
around the digest to the topics that concern us. There is a lot of
annoying Yahoo garbage that gets tagged on the bottom t the end of the
messages that makes even scrolling time consuming.

Hi Bruce,
You are correct that it is out of our control. Being a "free"
list is like watching network television (10 minutes of content, 12 minutes
of spam)

The one thing that posters can do is to trim the messages before they send
them and add the responses below the text. Here are some guidelines
suggested by others:

Here's what the really smart people at Harvard suggest:
http://www.wjh.harvard.edu/wjh/newsgrp.shtml

Here's Google's suggestions:
http://groups.google.com/googlegroups/posting_style.html

Here's a tutorial from "Dan":
http://mailformat.dan.info/quoting/bottom-posting.html

Mark W.
Mark/Bruce,
I don't want to start anything, but adding my text below the message is not
helpful for me. Then I have several messages in my "vantage" box that all
start exactly the same way. I group my messages by conversation (or
subject) and can read all the responses quickly without having to go over
the initial question again...(that is at the bottom of the list of several
messages sorted).
I like the current format better than any other list I am a part of, and
would really like to keep it the way that it is.
The message below reads nice if it's the only message you are interested in,
but if you just read the question, why would you want to have to read that
again to get to the answer? Besides the header information no longer
indicates who you are quoting, making it more difficult to make quick sense
of what you are reading. Granted, this may not be the case for Digest mode,
I wouldn't know because I find in order for me to be a valuable resource to
the group I need to be able to read and respond quickly so Digest mode would
not work for me anyway.
My recommendation would be to change off Digest mode and use a rule to move
the Vantage messages to a separate folder and then group by conversation and
sort by received. Then you can check in on threads as you like and leave
the rest alone or even delete them as a group.
As for editing the original message, I do believe that we could all use a
reminder to not double up the junk at the end every message now and again.
I am sure I am one of the guiltiest parties in leaving the Yahoo crap at the
end because I never read that far into a message.

Me too!. I have my inbox set up as he suggests, all of the Vantage emails go to one folder. It's very easy to sort by subject, and delete threads that do not apply to me.

Well, in this post, I'm not sure with whom Chris is agreeing!!!

While my personal preference is to trim and then reply to the related text,
I would *highly* recommend that all posters take a moment to trim their
posts. Top or bottom posting is not as annoying as all of that extra text. I
read this group (and eight others) just like Aaron suggests, but if I have
to do a search in the archive, I have to wade through a ton of duplicate
text to find the morsel of information I am looking for. Yes, it is much
nicer for digest readers and it also works well for those of us who move
items to a folder and read by conversation. This is why it is called
netiquette. There's no law saying you have to be polite, it's just nice when
people think of others. These are my last words on the topic. ;-)

Mark W.
Sorry for the confusion. I was agreeing with the email I was responding too
who also agreed with Aaron that the responses should be at the top. And now
that that's clear, I'll erase the email this is responding to :)

And I sometimes receive the 2nd email before the 1st. Is that Yahoo's way of
confusing the universe or the Internet taking a tortured path on the first
email?
Actually, Yahoo gets a little constipated and it takes awhile for the
Metamucil to trickle through. Yeeccchh!
