Hi,
We don’t currently use lot control on any of our materials but due to a regulatory necessity to have traceability of materials within one of the products we manufacture, we might now have the need to. My issue with lot control is when consuming the material you have to tell the system which lot you have used. This will end up being very time consuming if there are multiple lot controlled materials on the BOM. We make everything to order, and some orders are low volume, it will be really inefficient, therefore, to log the lot every time.
We did create our own system which meant we had an “active/current” batch/lot for the materials, and you could tell by the job date, which lot had been used (presuming strict FIFO adherence). However, we never really got that to work for us. I wondered if in Epicor/Kinetic there was any functionality for the automatic recording of the lot, and the system presumes when you consume that material you are consuming the active batch.
I should also mention all the materials are backflushed.
