Automatically attaching files

Hey gang!
Is there a way to set up ECM to automatically attach files to a sales order?

What type of files are you looking to attach? Can you give more details on what you want to do?

Yes, you need to set up the datalinks to have documents added in ECM get attached to Kinetic.

Is there a documented process for this? Would be curious on how to do this correctly.

I was told there was a way to attach files to Sales Orders (as an example) thru the metadata. Has anybody ever set this up?

Generally if you’re referring to using metadata it would be done in Epicor so that the attachment added in Epicor comes over to ECM with metadata that can be indexed (searchable). If you’re looking to attach documents from ECM to Epicor then you would need the ERP Attachment license and a workflow to use the datalinks designed to do this.

Specific to sales orders, there is a SO Automation license for ECM that includes these things, as well as a lot more in an effort to automate the Order Entry process done manually in Epicor.

Yes, I’ve set this up several times, and it’s extremely useful. I’ve even created a workflow that leverages metadata to populate additional information using datalinks. It works great for enhancing workflows and automating tasks.

That said, I’ve noticed a few fields can cause issues when using metadata, but there are plenty of reliable fields available to get the information you need and integrate it into a workflow.

Or you could use JSON datalinks to push data back to Epicor without needing the Sales Order Automation License.

The DocAttach module will do this, if you have AP Automation you should already have it, if not you may need to speak to your CAM.
